Dear Parents
HOORAY!
LEARNING NEVER STOPS...
Getting to know ourselves and our emotions is a never-ending job! Starting early is the best way to encourage success and empathy towards others. This week we have been exploring those feelings and emotions through nursery rhymes and stories.
This week, we talked about "Little Miss Muffet" and we continued with "The Three Little Kittens". While singing these rhymes, we connected the feelings they had about losing something or feeling sad, happy, worried, and scared. We read the books "Wemberly Worried" and "The Kissing Hand" that focused on their feelings when they need to leave their family. In addition, we talked specifically about how Wemberly and Chester felt when they were going to school and the students' own feelings when they are starting a new year at school.
As we receive your family pictures, we will add them to their 'Kissing Hand' bulletin board our in our family tree. If you are not familiar with these books, you can watch Wemberly Worried and The Kissing Hand read aloud on youtube.com.
In relation to this, we made a chart to help us establish calm breathing. We exercise this by Smiling, Taking a Deep Breath, And Relaxing. The students breathe in like they are smelling a flower and breathe out like they are blowing out a birthday candle. We discussed how to use our Safe Place (Conscious Discipline) in the classroom when we are feeling sad and scared, as getting separated from our homes and relatives is one of the many challenges our children will face these first few weeks of school.
As noted earlier, we are continuing to establish our rules and routines this week. Next week we will be practicing classroom jobs to promote responsibility and working as a team. On Monday, please ask your children about what their jobs are and how they are important for the classroom! :)
Lastly, we explained a bit more about the '5 BEES' and how following those will maintain safety and order in everyday life situations.
Next week, is "ALL ABOUT ME". We will learn more about who we are by having different activities. Please remember to email me @ dbernal@isp.edu.pa with a family photo or one with your child to school so we can talk about their families pictures and display them.

It is important to encourage children's vocabulary development so that they develop the language and literacy skills necessary to succeed in school. The adults in a child's life play a significant role in helping a child learn new words.

Reminders
Me in a Bag/ Me Bag Activity- This is not mandatory
We will be dedicating a special moment of the day to an activity called me in a bag. The idea if for students to have an opportunity to share with their friends things that are special to them. They can bring objects, photographs etc about themselves. It is like a show and tell time where they are the center of attention so others can get to know their likes and interests. It is not a requirement but if your child would like to be part of the activity you can help him/her select and plan accordingly . If you could please send me an email ,just so that we know your child will be sharing that week, it would be much appreciated. We do not have a deadline for this activity! They can use their favorite bag or even a recycled plastic bag.
