You have a few weeks left of summer, enjoy...AND be productive. Here are some ideas:
- Volunteer - Check out the Youth Volunteer Opportunities posted by United Way
- Work & Set up a Bank Account - Learning to manage your money, creating a budget, and living within your means are all learned skills. Working throughout high school can help you build health money-management habits, build your resume, and build employability skills that will follow you into adulthood.
- Visit Colleges - road-trip with friends or stop by a college on a family trip. Visits are the best way to see if a college is the right fit for you
- Work on College Apps - dont wait until the busy school year starts to add more work to your plate. Start your apps now! Essays take the most time, so start there.
- Apply for scholarships - Get familiar with the MMSD scholarship page - you will want to check here often! Check out scholarship search engines as well.
- Retake the ACT (if needed) & create your ACT account - colleges need your score(s) and they will need to come directly from your account. Study for the test by logging into your Career Cruising account>My Plan>Method Test Prep
- Get organized! - get your school supplies, contact your counselor if you need to make a schedule change, designate a place to keep your college app passwords (seniors, we are talking to you!) and begin calendaring important deadlines and dates for the school year.
