The Together Leader: AP Book Study

All Assistant Principals are reading The Together Leader: Get Organized for Your Success- and Sanity! by Maia Heyck-Merlin as a book study throughout this year.

AP's are asked to read Chapters 14- 16 for April 16. In order to be prepared to discuss the readings at the AP meeting in January, please consider the following:

  • What is the current state of your digital documents? How might you begin to improve their effectiveness?
  • Moving forward, what will you tackle? In what order?
  • How has your time management and/or organization changed this year?

RECOMMENDED BOOKS

Overcoming the Achievement Gap Trap: Liberating Mindsets to Effect Change

This book, by Dr. Anthony Muhammad, was the Teacher Leadership Book Study book in February - we had over 75 teachers across the district read this book. Many of the participants asked me if their administrators had read this book. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend you consider it. I have 3 copies available to loan people (first come, first serve) if you are interested.

Lead Like a Pirate: Make School Amazing for Your Students & Staff

By Shelley Burgess & Beth Houf, this is the Teacher Leadership Book Study selection for April. It is a fun, quick read that will give you practice advice about getting into classrooms, providing meaningful feedback to teachers, and helping make a positive impact on your school in many ways. I also have a few copies of this available to loan out to interested readers.

Becoming a Learning Team: A guide to teacher-led cycle of continuous improvement

We recently purchased a copy of this book for each school principal. We have read chapters 1 & 2 of this book in SLT this year. If you have not attended SLT this year, I encourage you to borrow your principal's copy to read the first two chapters. This learning team cycle will most likely drive the work of SLTs, and therefore PLCs, next year. It's important that you are each aware of this content.
