NEWS FROM WERNER
Thank You Volunteers!
Dear Werner Community,
This week, we take time to celebrate our volunteers. Volunteers are one of the cornerstones for our success as a school. Each year, we depend on you to help us with students, clerical work, community events, and everything in-between. The last few years have impacted on us in ways we did not imagine and I’m glad that we are beginning to see some return to normal in this area of support. This year alone, we had over 200 volunteers support with 3108 hours of service! And we know that not all hours get tracked, so that means we had even more. If we paid you minimum wage, that would be over $42,000. By the way, you are worth so much more than that!
So, this week, we say “Thank You” for what you do. You save us time, money, and resources. But most importantly, you make a difference for our school!
With Gratitude,
Hayden Camp
Principal

Updates from Health Team
Immunizations
Your child should have received the following immunizations in elementary school:
· 5DTaP/Td/DTP–diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (4 is acceptable if 4th dose is given after 4th birthday)
· 4IPV/OPV–polio (3 is acceptable if 3rd given after 4th birthday)
· 3 shot series for Hepatitis B
· 2MMR–measles, mumps, rubella
· 2Varicella–chickenpox OR history of chickenpox confirmed by doctor or lab test
· Vaccines are recommended for hepatitis A, influenza, meningococcal disease and human papilloma virus, but are not required.
Colorado law (Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009‐2) requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed childcares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed.
Exemptions
There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption.
· File the certificate of nonmedical exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider OR
· File the certificate of nonmedical exemption received upon the completion of our online education module.
· Parents of students in grades K-12 claiming a nonmedical exemption must file one annually. Nonmedical exemptions expire June 30 each year. If you submit a nonmedical exemption on or before June 30, it will not be valid for the upcoming school year unless you signed the exemption during early registration.
· Provide a copy of the completed exemption certificate to the Preston front office.
Medical exemptions must be completed by a physician and only need to be completely once, not annually like the non-medical exemption.

NEWS FROM PSD
Support Students Experiencing Homelessness
The number of PSD families and youth experiencing homelessness has risen by 10% since last year, and their needs have risen exponentially. Currently, one out of every 27 students is experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in our district. Students experiencing homelessness encounter many barriers to their education. Our department works to help youth and families overcome these barriers, including transportation, access to extracurricular activities, before and after-school care, and meeting basic needs. We do this along with case-management to help them reach independence.
Your generous donation allows the Language, Culture and Equity Department to support these students and families with personal items, temporary shelter, provisions, clothing, etc.
The need has never been greater.
Please help us reach our goal of raising $40,000 to support PSD students and families facing housing insecurity and homelessness.
*All donations are tax deductible, and an automated email will provide you with your tax receipt.
