Bustin' Out All Over
After a spring that felt like fall, it seems that summer may actually come at last. People are out and about and the activities are coming thick and fast. It's a great time to be living in this part of the world.
For those of us who mostly would rather be reading, however, this season of wonderful weather, gardening, outdoor recreation, parties and cultural events can be a challenge. The book is beckoning, the hammock calls but we must tear ourselves away. "Just one more page." and "Just let me finish this paragraph." will be our refrain for the next several months.
Ironically, we at the library contribute to the dilemma by holding events like our family and contra dance (Super fun for the whole family!) hosting a Men o' War Balladeers concert ( Some very talented local musicians!) and a whole schedule of Summer Reading activities (Coming in a separate newsletter!). We're also the gateway to an even larger world though out Museum Pass program, discounts on selected SPAC tickets and the NY Public Library Culture pass.
Do we feel guilty about this? Nope. Not even a little bit. Your library is very much about books; on paper, via sound waves or electrons on a screen, but we are also about the many "live and in-person" ways to learn, explore and have fun. So, block out a bit of time for reading, take advantage of as many other opportunities as you can, use up those long days and plan to do your sleeping next winter.
