From Mr. Lucita
It seems as if great things keep happening for the Johnson Band every week! This weekend we had the TMEA All Region Band Clinic and Concert in which several of our students participated and even more came to watch and listen. We also had an awesome turnout for the loading crew work day and had incredible weather for the Poinsettia pick-up at the Jaguar Band-Hall.
Friday & Saturday were the TMEA All Region Band Clinic & Concert at the Austin PAC. This event featured the best HS Band students in the Austin area and guest conductors from across Texas and Arkansas. The Johnson HS Band was fortunate to have 9 students earn a position within this awesome ensemble. The concert was held in the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center and the level of performance was incredible. It was amazing to see what can be produced in such a short period of time by such awesome student musicians.
On Saturday we also had two other events happening prior to the region concert that evening. We had the Poinsettia pick-up which was a Johnson Band Booster Fundraiser. We could not have asked for more perfect weather for this day and are very grateful for everyone that purchased, sold, delivered and helped with this entire process. There will also be some Poinsettias available for purchase at the JHS Band Concert this week. In addition to the Poinsettia pick-up at the band hall we also had a loading crew work day in which our awesome parents helped build some shelving platforms for our percussion storage room and also prepared all of our marching band props for storage. This was a huge undertaking and is key in helping set us up for success this coming fall. Thank you to everyone that was involved this weekend!!!
Now for what is happening this week. The main thing on thing on the calendar is our Winter Concert!! The concert will be held at the Hays PAC. There is a call-time for students to arrive at the PAC at 6:00 PM to begin the warm-up process and the performance officially begins at 6:30 PM. Here is some general information for the concert. The concert is REQUIRED of all Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony members and is their final exam for the semester. Color Guard students are welcome to attend and support the wind/percussion students and enjoy the music, however, this is not a required event for them. Eligibility does not impact a student’s ability to perform in this event, it is considered an extension of our classroom and is their semester FINAL EXAM. There are 3 portions to their final exam Warm-Up, Performance and Audience and the students are required to be at each.
The students will be an audience for each of the Johnson Bands. The concert attire for the students is Concert Black! Students should wear all black: socks, shoes, pants, shirts, a dress, etc……. If a student cannot acquire all black for the concert they should see Mr. Lucita ASAP and he will help them take care of this. Students are welcome to wear Santa Hats, Elf Ears, etc…… preferably no tall items such as the antlers as they obstruct the view of the students sitting behind them. Also this week there are after school rehearsals. Wind Ensemble, Monday 4:30-6:00 and Wind Symphony, Tuesday 4:30-6:00. The calendar has all rehearsal locations and times for all groups.
Let’s have another awesome week and as always if you have any questions please feel free to email or call the band hall.
Thank You!
PLEASE SUPPORT THE JOHNSON JAGUAR BAND!
