From the Eagles' Nest
Dear Boone Meadow Families,
The first week of the 2016-2017 school year is now in the books! It was delightful to see the students arrive with smiling faces and obviously eager to begin the new school year. We launched the first week with a focus on knowing your child well. By building relationship, coupled with assessing student skills and talents (formally and informally), we are positioned to serve your child more effectively. Our goal is to “Unleash the Possibilities” in your child so they can meet a future of success through the ability to navigate new opportunities and challenges.
This week demonstrated a fantastic start to the new school year. Our staff members were there to happily greet the children and make the first day of school run smoothly! I thank all of you for your patience during the first few days when students needed extra transition time, routines were just beginning, and anxieties ran high. Your friendliness and courtesy was striking as you brought, walked, or sent your children off to school.
The beginning of the school year is a good time to review and bring you up to date on a few matters, as well. At last count, Boone Meadow has a total of 426 students. When adding personnel in all roles, we potentially exceed 500 people in the building at any given time. A number this large requires some uniform procedures. So, let me thank all of you for adhering to our agreements and expectations.
Lunchroom visitors: In the coming weeks, we will designate a location for you to have lunch with your child. We are still defining how this will take shape and details will come soon.
Safety protocol: As with any visit, please be aware that we are using a new visitor management system known as SafeVisitor. SafeVisitor is a 30-45 second check-in process that cross references against all national sex offender registries and prints a visitor badge. Please be prepared to scan a government issued ID (Driver License) when arriving to campus as a visitor or volunteer. The printed badge should be visible at all times while in the building. Thank you!
Parent/Curriculum Night – August 25th – Please make sure this date is on your calendar. This time is set aside for parents/guardians to hear from the teacher about the design for your child’s upcoming year. The teacher will share curriculum goals and various nuances of your child’s classroom. Please note that the evening is geared toward adults and no childcare is provided.

Changes to School Visitor Check-Ins at ZCS
As the 16-17 school year begins, please be aware that we will be using a new visitor management system known as SafeVisitor. SafeVisitor is a 30-45 second check-in process that cross references against all national sex offender registries and prints a visitor badge. Please be prepared to scan a government issued ID (Driver License) when arriving to campus as a visitor or volunteer. The printed badge should be visible at all times while in the building. Thank you!
Please note: Full background checks are still required field trips. Full background checks cost $15.95 and take at least 7-10 days to process.
All volunteers in our district are also required to complete the bullying module, consisting of a short video and a digital signature as proof of watching the video. This video must be watched for either level of volunteer (Full or Limited). Please click here to visit the BRAVO/Volunteers page where all of these items can be completed.
Immunization Requirements for 2016-2017
State law stipulates that the medical records of children on file at school show the required immunizations have been completed by the 20th day of the school year. That day is September 6th, 2016. Information regarding immunizations requirements for 2016-2017 can be found here.
Parents of children whose immunizations are not up-to-date should contact their health care provider or the Boone County Health Department to schedule an appointment for the necessary immunizations. Some pharmacies also carry the necessary vaccines.
If parents object to immunizations, a written objection must be on file in the school office by September 6th, 2016. Children who do not have up to date vaccination records by that date will not be allowed to return to school until the proper immunization information is on file. Students who have appointments with their health care provider after September 6th may present proof of that appointment in order to stay in school.
If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Amy, at x14104.
Boone County has shifted from NIXLE to SMART911. This is a free service that allows you to receive emergency notifications from the county which may include severe weather warnings and traffic alerts. The program will ask for optional personal information that could be used in the event of an emergency situation in your home. Boone County citizens are encouraged to create their Safety Profile with Smart911 today. To create a safety profile and sign up for updates, go to www.smart911.com
