Thursday Thoughts
Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
Our book clubs are focusing on characterization, retelling, and summarizing. These concepts are being discussed as we read Bunnicula (Mrs. Kaufman's group), Junie B., First Grader: Boo...and I Mean It! (Ms. Holzer's group), and Miss Rumphius (Mrs. King's group).
We concluded our unit on Zero the Hero in math. Today we have begun our Pumpkin Math study, in which we estimate a pumpkin's weight, circumference, and number of seeds. Next week we will see how close (or far away) our estimates are to the actual measurements!
In social studies, the children learned about traditional jobs of men and women within Eastern Woodlands culture groups. They have also created wigwams for an Eastern Woodlands model village, which will be completed in the next few weeks.
The children were pleased to receive their first pen pal letters from Second Graders at Seneca Academy. It's so fun to learn more about the pen pals and answer their questions!
We received more of your questionnaires this week. If you have not yet done so, please send them in before we meet for conferences next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend,
Emilia and Rachel
