IN THE KNOW
KSD Military Recruitment Opt-Out Form
Federal law requires schools to provide the names, addresses, and home telephone numbers of secondary school students to military recruiters when requested.
The law allows parents/guardians of these students to refuse the release of information to military recruiters.
Parents/guardians who do not want their student’s information released to recruiters must complete this form by Oct. 1. Note: Students age 18 and older are considered adults and by law may make this decision for themselves.

RESOURCE ROUND UP
Getting Letters of Recommendation
Letters of Recommendation are and essential part of the application profess for jobs, college, scholarships, apprenticeships, and many other application processes. Here are some tips and tricks to get the best letters of recommendation possible.
Who to Ask?
Select individuals who meet the following criteria:
- They have a strong familiarity with you.
- They are well-versed in your achievements.
- They can provide favorable assessments of your skills, character, and unique talents.
Consider approaching individuals such as counselors, teachers, employers, coaches, administrators, volunteer work supervisors, club advisors, and extracurricular supervisors for their recommendations.
When to Ask?
The more time the better. Two weeks is best, one week minimum. Do not wait until the deadline day. You will most likely be denied, it’s disrespectful and you will not get the letter you need to get what you want.
What to Provide?
Resume, Brag Sheet, Parent Brag Form, Deadline, A description of what you are apply for to help the writer tailor the letter, and also a mailing address or email address to the organization if it needs to be sent directly.
