Brooker Creek Elementary
Happy Friday, Bobcat Families!
It has been a wonderful week at Brooker Creek! Our Bobcats are settling in at school and online. This week we continued to work through completing the beginning of the year MAP assessment for reading and math. This assessment is given 2-3 times a year and provides our teachers with data to show areas of strength and weakness of their students to help drive instructional decisions in the classroom. Your child's teacher will share your child's results of this assessment in the coming weeks.
We need your help with water bottles. We ask that each student brings a full water bottle to school each day. Some teachers have even requested two if at all possible. We do have a water bottle filling station in the cafeteria that students may use to refill bottles or they can use the sink in the classroom. We will have disposable cups for students who do not bring a water bottle to school. Thank you for your assistance.
Have a great weekend!
Open House 2020- 2021
Due to the current CDC guidelines and district expectations, we will be facilitating our annual Open House virtually this school year via Microsoft Teams. Parents can download Teams to their phones or tablets.
The dates and times for our virtual open house are listed above. Teachers will be sending classroom specific links to their families a couple of days before the scheduled date.
We appreciate your understanding as we adjust to this alternate format for our open house. The good news is that you can enjoy learning about your child's classroom from the comfort of your home!
1- Join PTA, Let your voice be heard and your vote count!
2 - Join us on Monday night for our General Meeting and meet our new Assistant Principal Mrs. Crabb.
If you still need to join, please go to https://brookercreekelementary.memberhub.store/
Please see the picture below with some information about our Spirit Wear store. We love to show our Bobcat pride each Friday. We hope all of our Bobcats will join us for Spirit Day on Fridays. We will be sharing pictures on Facebook each week.
Why September Matters:
Research has shown that attendance habits established in September persist over the whole year.
- Students who missed fewer than 2 days in September continued to average fewer than 2 days absent each month.
- Students who missed 2 to 4 days in September were 5 times more likely than those who missed fewer than 2 days to be chronically absent for the year.
- Nearly 9 out of 10 students who missed more than 4 days in September were chronically absent that year.
Chronic Absences (or missing 2 or more days of school a month, whether excused or unexcused) as early as Pre-K is associated with poor reading skills and retention in the 3rd grade. By the 6th grade, it is considered an early warning indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
Welcome Ms. Teweleit
Welcome Amanda Teweleit, our new Behavior Specialist. Ms. Teweleit works part-time with us at Brooker Creek and part-time at Cypress Woods. We are thrilled to have her with us. Ms. Teweleit was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and likes to spend time volunteering at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Currently, she is taking SCUBA classes and after her baby is born, she will start learning how to dive. Her favorite time of year is the holiday season, especially Christmas time! If Mrs. Teweleit had a superpower, she would teleport, that way she could travel anywhere and everywhere!
Breakfast and Lunch Preorders
When parents spend a few minutes pre-ordering their child’s lunch, it allows our cafe team to plan ahead. These forms allow us to break the meals out by teacher and have them ready when the students come into the lunchroom and reduce the amount of time they have to spend in line. Pre-ordered meals also help us to reduce waste by only making food that is needed based on the orders.
For our MyPCS families picking up food on Fridays, the times for pick up are each Friday from 9:15-9:45 in the multipurpose room. Please drive through the car circle and stop at the double doors for the multipurpose room. Please stay in the car and someone will come assist you.
Thank you for your help!
