PSD Priority: Districtwide AVID Implementation
Mira Gobel, Assistant Superintendent of Schools & Social Emotional Learning, provided the Board with an overview of AVID at PSD, our implementation plan for 2022-23, and its connection to our Outrageous Outcomes and district priorities. Mrs. Gobel also hosted a roundtable where board members were able to meet with AVID students and staff from our middle and high schools to engage in four rounds of activities. This was a great opportunity for board members to ask questions and learn from our students and staff.
Superintendent’s Student Action Council Update
Michelle Whitney, PSD Superintendent, Sydney Stenson, Logan Stroup, and Emily Iniguez Hernandez, PSD Student Board Representatives, and Cecily Kuhn and Juliana Porcayo-Jaimes, Student Action Council Liaisons, provided an update from the Student Action Council meeting that took place on September 21, 2022.
During their first meeting, students participated in icebreaker activities and generated a ‘top ideas’ list to narrow their focus for the 2022-23 school year. Ideas include promoting student inclusion activities, high school and beyond planning, substance abuse awareness, available mental health resources, and addressing dress codes.
The next Student Action Council meeting will take place on October 19.
2022 Update to the Pasco School District Capital Facilities Plan
Sarah Thornton, Assistant Superintendent of Legal Services, presented the Board with background information on the purpose and scope of the Capital Facilities Plan (CFP) and discussed projects for possible inclusion in the 2022 update.
The district is required to submit an update to its CFP to the City of Pasco every two years as a condition of the City’s ordinance and agreement to collect impact fees on new residential construction. Ms. Thornton requested input from the Board to be included in the updated CFP which will be presented by Denise Stiffarm on October 25, 2022.
