Please note some important changes to our district Covid protocols:
Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 and/or display COVID-19 symptoms should isolate regardless of vaccination status: • Monitor for symptoms for days 0-10; AND • Isolate at home for days 0-5 (day “0” is the day symptoms begin or day test was taken for those without symptoms); AND • If symptoms have improved or no new symptoms developed, 24-hours fever-free, you may return to school, while wearing a well-fitting mask, for days 6-10

National PTA Reflections
Thank you to all of our participants who entered into National PTA Reflections this year at Roosevelt. Your work was amazing! We would like to celebrate each of you with a small celebration on Tuesday January 18, 2022 during school hours.
Our district level ceremony has been postponed until March. More details to come.
Congratulations to all our participants and our students moving onto state judging.
Art with Mrs. Connors
Music with Mrs. West
In Music Class this week upper grades learned about American Ragtime composer, Scott Joplin (1868-1917). Students overall voted "The Entertainer" as their favorite piano rag! Students learned about the evolution of recording and listening devices, including the phonograph, player piano, records, cassettes, CDs, and MP3 players. One highlight of the lesson was getting to hold a 99 year old piano roll! Lower grades added a musical soundtrack to the book "The Mitten" by: Jan Brett. Mrs. Forrester's class tried out some music centers as a plan B when the internet was down. Enjoy some pictures from our fun week in the music room! See info below for auditions coming up next week for the Livonia Youth Choir!

LMC with Mr. Pinta
The big news in the LMC this week is the disappearance of our missing plush pet "Fly Guy." Fly Guy, Pete the Cat, and Dogman are a few of the several plush animals we have in the LMC to help promote children's literature. Although students have been allowed to touch the plush animals, they belong in the library. Fly Guy disappeared this past Tuesday and has not returned. If you have information about this plush, please let Mr. Pinta know.
This week we worked on a lesson on Fact and Opinion in the computer lab using an interactive program called Nearpod. Nearpod allows students to collaborate and show what they're learning in many different ways. Ask your child to give you an example of a fact and an opinion. It's ok to reiterate that a fact can be proven as true or false, and an opinion is what someone believes, thinks, or feels. Much of your child's future in education moving forward and up through middle school will be asking them to take a stand (opinion), and support it with factual evidence. The work we did in LMC this week along with any fact and opinion work your child has done in their classroom is the building block for what's to come.
Thank you,
Mr. Pinta

Useful Covid Reminders
Winter Wonderland Weather Reminders
Snow Gear/Winter Weather:
Students are always excited about snow. We will be heading outside for recess every day, as long as the temperature is 15 degrees (with wind chill). Please be sure to dress your children appropriately! Children need to have snow boots if they want to play in the snow. They need to have snow pants on if they are going to be laying down, rolling around and doing all that other fun snow stuff. If your child does not have boots/snow pants, they will be staying on the black top during recess (no boots/no snow pants = no snow).
Please be sure to label all your children's winter gear. It is best if the children have different shoes as well, so we can leave the wet boots in the hall. As always, no throwing snow!
Helpful Hints:
- Send snow gear in a separate (not disposable) bag. It is hard to try to repack everything in backpacks or flimsy bags that tear.
- Send in shoes if your child wears boots to school. Dry shoes are more comfortable and will not track mud/snow through the classroom.
- Label everything. It is much faster/easier to return lost items when they have a name.
- Practice independence at home. Can your child put on and zip their jacket on their own? Can your child turn the sleeves of their jacket right side out if they are backwards? Help your child practice these skills at home so that they are successful at school.

Free and Reduced Meal Application
While all LPS enrolled students will receive meals at no cost this coming school year, we encourage all families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application every year. This application is critical in determining the amount of funding our district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs. Please visit the LPS website, go to the Departments tab, and find the Food Service link. Take the time to fill it out today!
