Tilghman Tiger Talk
October 8, 2021 Principal Update
2021-2022 School Year
Dear Tilghman Families,
Car Rider
We are making progress with our car rider lines. Please remember to pull as far forward as possible and stay in your vehicle. A staff member will help your child exit your car. Having your student ready with his/her mask, book bag, and water bottle is very helpful. In the afternoons, a staff member will help your student get into the vehicle. These important steps help expedite the line and will keep vehicles from being out on the main road. Thank you for your help.
Parent Advisory Committee
We will have our first PTO/Parent Advisory Committee meeting this coming Thursday, Oct. 14th, at 5:30 via Zoom. During our PAC meetings, we ask for input and feedback from TES families on various topics to improve the school experience for you and your child. Please email Mrs. Weems, PTO President, (jessica.weems@talbotschools.org) if you would like to join. You will be sent a Zoom link.
PTO Fundraisers
Don't forget that our fall PTO fundraisers are taking place now. Please contact Faith Mitchell (faith.mitchell@talbotschools.org) ASAP to order your mums for delivery on October 29th. Our ShopFund Holiday Sales Book purchases are due by October 18th. Items will be delivered before Thanksgiving, just in time for holiday gifts. We appreciate your participation and help! Please reach out to Jess Weems if you have any questions.
Attendance
The school strongly discourages families from scheduling vacations during the school year. If a student will be absent due to a vacation, the principal must be notified of the dates in advance. While those absences will still be coded unlawful, prior notification will eliminate them from being counted towards potential court action. This applies to five days per school year as long as the student has not exceeded the attendance standards prior to the request.
Now that all schools have returned to full-time in-person learning, all aspects of the TCPS attendance policy and administrative regulations (10.2 & 10.2 AR) are in effect for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. Accordingly, please review and contact your child’s school counselor should you have any questions.
Illness
Please keep your child home if she/he is not feeling well and let the school nurse and your child's teacher know (Nurse- tbatley@talbotschools.org). If your child is awaiting COVID test results he/she should remain at home until a negative test result is received even if there are no symptoms. You will need to forward a copy of the PCR test results in order to return to school. TCPS follows strict guidance from the Talbot County Health Department on quarantine procedures when a student is sick or exhibits Covid-19 symptoms. In addition, please make sure you send a parent or doctor's note if your child is absent for any reason.
Please see the TCPS chart and link that shows Covid cases and quarantined students by TCPS school below.

Quarantined Students
If students are required to quarantine, teachers will be providing work for students to complete and will reach out to assist during student absences. Please contact the school to make arrangements for picking up work. Teachers may also be reaching out to set up Zoom meetings for instructional purposes.
Thank you for taking necessary precautions and keeping students home when they are sick.
We appreciate your willingness to take your child/children to the doctor and to get the PCR tests when necessary. These decisions help us all stay safe and healthy!
If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

FARMS:
Please note that your previous FARMS application expires on 10/13/21. Although all students will receive free meals this school year, thanks to a grant TCPS received for this purpose, we would like to request that all families still complete the annual FARMS application. This application will help secure additional benefits for our students and our school, throughout this school year and into the start of the next school year. These applications help us receive funding for student meals, provide materials of instruction, and fund positions within the building. If you haven't sent in your completed form, please do so asap. A link is provided for your convenience. Submit your FARMS application and you will be entered to win a $75 or $150 grocery store card. Thanks so much for your assistance!
