The Food Preparation Contest will be on January 28-29! This will be the kick off to the 2023 Fairs and Contests season! Pull out the kitchen supplies, forage for your chanterelles, and get to practicing your favorite recipe! See below for more details. The registration deadline is next Wednesday, January 18th, so register ASAP. It's open to all enrolled 4-H Members!

January also marks the end of the early bird enrollment period for 4-H. Please enroll and pay your fees by January 31 or the price will go up.

Finally, we're incredibly excited to offer our Southern Oregon Leadership and Activities Retreat next month over President's day weekend, February 18-20. This will be such a fun time for youth ages 12-19 to hang out, experience life on a college campus, and learn all about leadership!

Countr(ies) of Celebration!

This year, rather than focusing on a single country, we will be focusing on a region of celebration: The Caribbean! The Caribbean states (as recognized by the United Nations) include:

  • Antigua and Barbuda

  • Cuba
  • Dominica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Grenada
  • Haiti
  • Jamaica
  • Saint Lucia
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis

We hope that youth will take a moment and select a country within this region to focus in on and learn more about their people and culture.

Club Charters Must be Updated

Hello all leaders! We hate to add more paperwork, but we've been instructed by Oregon 4-H that all clubs are required to update their charters for 2022-23. Please fill out the charter form below and return it with signatures to SOREC by January 31st. One "Chartering 4-H Clubs" should be filled out for every club.

Also, remember that the 4-H Resume will be required for all members showing at fair this year (wristbands will be given to those who complete their 4-H Resume)!

Fundraising and Bank Accounts

If your club or committee is interested in doing fundraising, it must have a bank account to deposit the funds. Call Lena to talk about the rules for fundraising and reporting. Then, send an email her with the bank you would like to use (Rogue Credit Union or People's Bank), and at least 2 names of signers on the account. The signers must be approved leaders. You can then take the signed bank authorization letter to the appropriate bank and open a checking account. Has your club changed signers over the years? Lena can write a new bank authorization letter for you to protect your club account.
