NJHS Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

Help us raise money for the Teacher Appreciate Breakfast in May! Send cash or coins on November 3rd and 4th.

NJHS is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest! Last week, students voted for a teacher on their team to represent them in this contest. The teacher decorated the team's pumpkin and entered it into the contest on November 3rd and 4th!

Students will vote for their favorite pumpkin(s) by bringing cash or coins to drop in the buckets during Bobcat Den. Students can vote for as many pumpkins as they want! The pumpkin with the most money, wins. The winning teacher will get 10% of the total money raised for their team! The rest of the money raised will go to NJHS to buy Teacher Appreciation Breakfast for all teachers in May. Last call for votes will be on Friday, Nov. 5, during BCD!

High Five Highlight

Buffett Middle School adopted five core values four years ago that we live and breathe every day at school. These values are called the Buffett High Five. They are Be Kind, Be Hardworking, Be Safe, Be Trustworthy, and Be Your Best.

This section of the bulletin will highlight one story featuring Buffett Bobcats staying true to these values.

Taking Care of Our School

With all of the recent TikTok Challenges showing destruction of school property, one of our Bobcat students does the opposite. He takes care of our school.

Carter, an 8th grader at Buffett, noticed one of our hallway signs knocked off of the wall while he was going to class. These signs are destination markings throughout the school. They can be easily broken once they are knocked off the wall and on the ground. Replacing these signs costs our school money. And for Ms. Slegl, Buffett's head engineer, it is a nuance.

Seeing the sign knocked off of the wall, Carter could have kept going right on by it. Instead, he stopped, picked it up, and turned it into the nearest teacher.

This simple act of kindness made Ms. Slegl ask the teacher which student turned in the sign because she wanted to reward him or her. Finding out it was Carter, Ms. Slegl made a special trip to get a tasty treat as a thank you.

Even without the reward, we know that Carter would always be the Bobcat to do what is right. He is a prime example of what it means to Be Trustworthy and Be Kind in the halls at Buffett. We are so proud to have him as a Bobcat!

Code of Conduct: Bobcat Den/Advisory

Access the Code of Conduct here

Bobcat Den - Advisor/Advisee Program Bobcat Den is a program designed to help students find success in school both academically and socially. Bobcat Den is between block 1-2 and block 3-4. Bobcat Den is a time to check homework assignments and organize student planners, as well as to respond to student questions and concerns. Students take part in life skills/current issues lessons directly connected to MTSS-B and DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time. Together students and teachers will discuss important academic and social issues that students face in grades five through eight. Students have important decisions to make about working with others, completing schoolwork, planning for the future, and connecting to the world around them. Bobcat Den sessions give students a chance to focus attention on academic organization, decision making, and study skills. This time is also used to set weekly goals and monitor progress that will be shared with parents at Student Led Conferences. The teacher/advisor will be sensitive to the interests of the students, listen to their concerns, and encourage students to develop student responsibilities and organizational skills.
