Lenski Weekly Update

September 30, 2022

From the Principal's Desk

THANK YOU to everyone who attended our “Movie Under the Stars” event last Friday! It was absolutely magical! And a special thank you to our PTO for making this special event happen!

We’ve also exceeded our Run4Fund$ goal with over $80K in donations! WOW! Lenski is fortunate to have such a loving and supportive community! These funds help us with things like Mrs. Siriwardana’s new art sink, new technology, supporting teacher staffing (funding), and many other things! Thank you! Thank you!

Next week, Lenski will be hosting the SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR! Thank you to Katie Perez, one of our awesome parents for helping us set up this fun event.

As we look to October, be on the lookout for information regarding conferences, the LPS Stride, and Halloween!

Enjoy the extended weekend with your Superstar!

Gratefully,

Jessica

Meet Rex, Our LPS Therapy Dog

School Resource officer/K9 Rex is a 1 and 1/2 year black Labrador retriever. Rex is a certified Therapy dog and works as school resource officer John Gray’s k9 partner. Rex’s job is to provide support to the elementary students in Littleton Public schools, and whether they are having a bad day, in crisis or maybe even having a good day Rex strives to put a smile on their face. Therapy dogs are trained to use their nose to detect changes in our hormones so they can better identify people in need of support. The dogs receive training in advanced obedience to direct how they interact with students and the community. Rex is excited to be a part of Littleton Public schools and we hope to see you in our schools!

Community Circles at Lenski

One way we are building a supportive Lenski community this year is by doing Community Circles in classrooms. Teachers may gather their students together to talk about how they are feeling, build connections, and address classroom concerns. Mrs. Ritchey and Ms. Nixon will be facilitating classroom Community Circles, as well.

What are community circles?

Community Circles are simply that - a circle that includes students, teachers, staff or anyone that is involved in a classroom. Everyone gathers in a circle and then the facilitator welcomes everyone and begins the process. Students will be given a prompt: they may be asked to share how they are feeling, answer a question, share an appreciation, or a concern. Children learn valuable listening and communication skills during circles. It is also an opportunity for all students to be heard. Teachers and staff learn more about their students’ needs, as well. Children are never required to share - they may pass if they feel uncomfortable or do not wish to share. Everyone is involved and respected.

We look forward to working with the students and learning more about them! If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either one of us.
