COMPASS ACADEMY BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Our Back to School Night is this Tuesday, 8/16, from 6-8 p.m. Come out to meet your student's teachers, to hear about their first quarter courses, including what students will be learning, how to track student progress, and how you may contact teachers for support. The evening will begin in the community room (140) with a brief presentation by Mrs. Stanley. Parents will then be able to go to each of their student's classes. CITY OF ST. CHARLES JOB SHADOWING PROGRAM - CONTINUING THIS YEAR
Many Compass Academy students engaged in job shadowing through this program last year, and we are hoping that even more students will participate this year. In the city's career pathway job shadow program, Compass students can shadow people in many career fields, including engineering, communications, accounting, firefighting, government, law enforcement, construction, forestry, water management, and vehicle maintenance. Students who participate in job shadowing on Wednesdays, and then write reflections about their experiences, have the opportunity to earn credit for career exploration.
More information regarding how to sign up for this opportunity will be shared at Back to School Night and in the next newsletter.
NORTHWESTERN MEDICAL DISCOVERY PROGRAM
Throughout this one-year Discovery Program, students are exposed to a broad range of activities designed to encourage their interest in healthcare careers. In addition, the program fosters character and professional development, cultivates life skills, provides leadership experience, and offers opportunities to meet staff that will share their path and experiences from high school, college, to what they do now.
Program activities include tours, guest speakers, group discussion, and hands-on projects. Meetings are held once a month, most often on Saturday mornings from 9:00am-12:00pm. The NM Discovery West Chapter and the Greater DeKalb Chapter collaborate a lot, so meetings will be held at Central DuPage Hospital, Delnor Hospital, Kishwaukee Hospital, and various off-site NM locations. Please note, meeting dates, times, and topics are subject to change. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.
For information about the Discovery Program and how to apply.
Application portal opened on August 1st, 2022.
