Sixth Grade Newsletter

October 11, 2015

Dear Parents,

Here's what's happening at school this week.

We will finish working with argument writing this week and move on to literature circle activities. Students will have several novels to choose from, and will be able to bring them home to read. They will complete several activities that are related to the novel.

We will also be working on pronouns this week as part of the sixth grade grammar standards.

I will be speaking at the Association for Middle Level Educators Conference in Columbus, Ohio this week, so I will be out of class Wednesday-Friday. Please contact me by email if you have any questions or concerns.

Social Studies

We finished our pop-up books on the 5 themes of geography. This week we will finish up our first unit on foundations of world geography. Reminder- students have homework assigned each Monday, and due on Thursday.

Last week, students focused on dividing fractions. By the end of the week, they were dividing mixed numbers with fractions and whole numbers. On Monday, students will take a formative assessment on this to check for understanding. On Tuesday, students will enjoy Tiger Toast Tuesday. Students will answer math-related questions on food while enjoying their Tiger toast and topping. On Wednesday through Friday, students will practice long division, adding decimals, and subtracting decimals.

Students finished a poster identifying the levels in an Ecosystem.

This week we will look at the various relationships within Ecosystems. I will also be conferencing with each student this week to discuss their current grade in Science. Students are allowed to hand in any missing assignments anytime during the current marking period.

No new homework assigned this week, but students should be working on missing assignments at home.
