Monty's Mail
October 30, 2023
Principal's Corner
Montclair Elementary Families and Friends,
It's been a wonderful two weeks since our last Monty's Mail with red ribbon week, Walk to School Day and lots of great learning in the classrooms with our Montclair teachers and students.
This past Thursday, the Montclair Elementary Principal's Advisory Council met and we discussed several timely topics, including our Continuous Improvement goals in reading, science and attendance. I'm happy to share that Montclair's average attendance rate is 95%.
Principal's Advisory Council is recruiting a parent or two to fulfill two roles that are currently vacant. Advisory Council needs a parent representative from the Lake Terrapin Neighborhood, and is looking for a parent to represent Montclair Elementary at the Superintendent's Advisory Council. If you would like to serve in either of these capacities, please contact Advisory Chairperson, Natasha Caulder at cauldenl@pwcs.edu .
Warm Regards,
Tim Slayter
Office News
Parents, guardians and family members,
Please remember that out of an abundance of caution, PWCS schools require an ID check before releasing students to leave school. Bring your ID, if you are picking up from the main office, the clinic or for car riders (if you forget your dashboard number sign). Our aim is to keep our students safe! Thank you for your cooperation.
Effective Nov. 1, the last early pick up from the office will be at 3:10. Should you arrive after this time, you will be asked to pick up your child as a walker when students dismiss.

Read, Read, Read
Helping your child read at home has many benefits. One easy way to help your child at home is to enjoy reading books with them. As you read, you can use the tips below to talk about the books. Happy reading!!
Celebration Day
We hit our school wide PBIS pride pass goal! We will celebrate by having a school wide reward of “dress like your favorite book character” or wear a hat on Tuesday, October 31.
Encore Night
Sample the activities your child does during encore! Our Encore Night will be held on Wednesday, November 15th . The art, music and P.E. rooms will be open from 5:30-6:30 p.m. We hope you can join us for this open house event. Please note you can shop the book fair on this night as well!

Dogs on School Property
A reminder about leashed dogs at arrival and dismissal... We love our furry friends but sometimes, young students are nervous about dogs. While PWCS regulation (271-1 part III) permits leashed dogs on school grounds (thank you for cleaning up behind), we ask that you be careful with your pet and give a good distance from the doors so students can freely walk without being alarmed. Thanks!
Montclair PTCO
THANK YOU for your incredible support of Monty’s Fun Run! We were able to raise over $28,000 for our school, which will go a long way toward updating the blacktops on our playgrounds, bringing in assemblies, and fulfilling teacher’s wish lists.
Winter Spirit-wear Sales begin soon! Keep an eye out for the link to our online store where you can order some new Montclair-themed items just in time for cooler weather. Stop by the PTCO concession stand on November 15th during the Book Fair and Encore Night to see samples or to purchase a pair of Spirit Socks featuring our own Monty the Cardinal.
2023 Impact Aid Survey
2023 Impact Aid survey is now live in ParentVUE.
Impact Aid is a federal education program that reimburses school districts for lost revenue and additional costs due to the presence of nontaxable federal property (such as military installations, national parks, federal office buildings, and Veterans Affairs hospitals) in a community.
Impact Aid can be used for any general fund purpose, such as instructional materials, teacher salaries, transportation, technology, social-emotional support, and facility improvements.
Please complete the Impact Aid survey even if you are not federally connected. PWCS receives Impact Aid funds for every military-connected family and most families with a federal civilian employee who complete the survey. The deadline to complete the survey is Thursday, November 30.
Additional information regarding Impact Aid can be accessed on the U.S. Department of Education’s Impact Aid webpage.
School Nurse
Mrs. Walker would like the community to know that hearing tests will be given to all Kindergarten, 3rd, and all new students to our school on Thursday, November 16.
