Dolphin Tales
2017-2018 School Year
Second Quarter Connections at Disney Elementary
Dolphin Tales is an end of the quarter e-newsletter for us to share some of the wonderful events that took place during the quarter. TEAM DISNEY believes that positive partnering with parents is truly the only way to make our team stronger.
Positive Partnering Tip:
As you think about New Year's Resolutions, the following information may provide you with some helpful suggestions. For example, have you thought about whether you are giving your child enough freedom to build responsibility? Research shows that "overprotective parenting makes it difficult for children to learn essential skills for success in school and life". The following is a starter checklist to building responsibility within your children that you may consider:
- Don't rescue your child. Give them the responsibility to turn in their own forms or bring their own school supplies. Let them face the natural consequences if they forget something.
- Give them responsibility. Children can help around the house as a part of the family unit. Some ideas might include keeping their room clean, feeding the family pet, taking out the trash, etc.
- Don't do everything for your child. Let them attempt to do things for themselves such as: fixing breakfast, packing lunch, going to bed on time, getting up on time, etc.

Character Counts
Mrs. Bennett, our school counselor, introduced the character word "gratitude" during our morning announcements, and through her counselor lessons. Classroom teachers followed-up by incorporating the word into their reading or writing lessons. Our longtime community partner, Seminole Baptist Temple, helped host our Gratitude Character Counts Assembly, which is where Mrs. Shayla demonstrated gratitude by donating her hair!
