AP Language and Composition 11
Fall Updates
News and Updates for AP Language families
We've spent the past eight weeks building a strong foundation for analysis and writing and we will spend the next three marking periods applying those skills in a variety of reading and writing situations. I know that I'm looking forward to learning along with our students. The second marking period will bring a study of the creative process featuring the musical, Hamilton, and a study of the American Dream featuring The Great Gatsby.
As part of studying Hamilton, I've asked our students to try and watch Hamilton's America airing on PBS next Friday at 9:00 pm. There is a second showing on Sunday, 10/23 at 2:00 pm. I know there will be some students who do not have access to cable during the viewing times and I am hoping that we can get someone to record the show for us. If you can help with that, please email me. I hope that you can view the documentary with your student. I am a fan of this musical and the many ways that it can be taught in our classroom.
We will also be starting our independent reading projects in the second marking period. I hope that these projects will spark some exciting conversations in our classroom and at home.
As always, please let me know if there is anything that I can do to support your student. I've enjoyed getting to know this group of kids and I'm impressed by their ability to think critically.
