Patterson Elementary
Parent Blast - January 18, 2021
Awesome Attendance!
We are so excited to share that our attendance during CDL has been just as awesome as our in-person instruction and that is because of the great partnership with all of you and your hard work - thank you parents!! This week our EAT (Engagement, Access and Attendance Team) is sending out post-cards to students to recognize their hard work and also improvements to attendance.
Next month we are going to be focused building-wide on active engagement. Active engagement includes:
- Listening - joining live meetings, watching recorded lessons
- Joining the conversation - turning on the camera to give visual feedback to peers/teachers, verbally sharing ideas and asking questions, typing ideas and questions into the chat feature, sharing ideas in breakout rooms with peers
- Completing work in Google Classroom - carefully reading directions and learning targets and turning in completed work, asking questions using the comment feature, emailing or asking the teacher for help, joining the teacher for small groups and/or office hours to continue learning
We would love your support at home in reviewing these active engagement actions and joining us in positively recognizing your child/children when you see them doing these.

UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF AS A TAG LEARNER
Procrastination, perfectionism, and anxiety - do these sound familiar? Do they cross your mind and give you pause? You are not alone! Sometimes the best way to work through something is to know more about it. Knowledge is power!
High school students identified as Talented and Gifted (TAG) are invited to watch five 10-minute videos linked below (and posted in the high school TAG Google Classrooms) and use this handout to help them process the information:
- Session1: What it means to be TAG
- Session 2: Why it’s awesome being gifted
- Session 3: Anxiety
- Session 4: Perfectionism
- Session 5: Procrastination
Students are also invited to join Google Meet (or dial: +1 234-805-1095 PIN: 888 682 860#) sessions on these topics, which are hosted by Lydia Laurance, TAG Coordinator at Century High School, at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. Feel free to attend any or all of them; although the material is connected, attending one is not a prerequisite for the others. The sessions are open to HSD students at all of our high schools, including Hillsboro Online Academy.
For more information, please contact Lydia Laurance or District TAG TOSA Deb Luther.
