The Collegiate Connection

A Message from Dr. Lewis
It’s a great day to be a Longhorn! We have a lot of great things going on at Collegiate Prep.
.
This past week we welcomed our scholars back on campus from our Thanksgiving break. In ELAR scholars are progressing through phonemes and in math we are seeing gains in algebraic reasoning. In science we are in earth science, and I saw some great projects in the making in our 5th grade classrooms.
Our 5th grade scholars had the opportunity to attend a Formal Manners Banquet. This was a teaching opportunity for our scholars to learn how the appropriate behavior and etiquette for formal events. We start training our scholars now for scholarship banquets, UIL banquets, and several more that they will attend during their K12 experience. The event was sponsored by Frost Bank, and featured the Cedar Hill High School Culinary Arts Department for the food, and live entertainment provided by the Orchestra and Theatre department. Many of our scholars expressed interest in those programs.
Scholars had the opportunity to use their Longhorn Bucks from November to participate in a Dodgeball experience with the Staff vs. Scholars.
We finishing the semester strong by ensuring our scholars academic needs are being met. Each instructional minute counts!

Greetings Collegiate Prep Family ,
It was another fantastic week at Prep. I was so happy to see our scholars return. We enjoyed attending the Manners Matter Banquet, and the staff vs. scholars Dodgeball games! They were high in spirits and ready to play! The best part is there is more to come. Please continue to encourage your scholars to use the Golden Rule when playing with their peers. We want our scholars to demonstrate respect for themselves, their learning community, and peers. I am looking forward to another great week of learning and growing.

Instructional Focus: Literacy
What a wonderful season and time of year! As we prepare for Thanksgiving and set our sights on joyful holiday festivities and rich family traditions, what a blessing to be in school – to learn about new concepts, principles, and strategies, to grow physically and mentally, and to progress academically. We are grateful for our scholars, your children. As educators we are fortunate, even blessed, to serve young inquisitive minds with lofty aspirations of what their future will entail.
This Thanksgiving season, we wish to extend a cordial and grateful expression of your support. As you make plans for November and December breaks spending quality family time and engaging in exquisite entrees and succulent treats and desserts, we encourage and challenge our scholars to be actively engaged in reading daily and journal writing. Daily reading and reflective writing provide young minds an opportunity to reflect on their learning and deepen their understanding of what they are reading. As growing literacy minds mature, their world view expands and becomes increasingly richer, more vibrant, and dynamic.
May the choicest blessings be with you and yours this Thanksgiving season!
