PHS Staff Update

January 4th, 2016

Ramping Up for 2016!

Happy New Year!

During the break, I had a chance to do some skiing up at Bear Valley. As we parked back at the cabin and got out of the car, we looked up at a deep and bright starred Christmas sky. It was the kind of quiet, stunning moment that reminds us how lucky we are. We hope you all have such moments to reflect on during those times when the work at school gets overwhelming.

See you Monday at Teacher WorkDay. Here we go!

(Just got word that Jean Standard's father has passed away. Please keep Jean and family in your thoughts. She will be out until next week)

Rick Krist - Coach of the Year!

Congratulations to Rick Krist on being named Coach of the Year. Petaluma football enjoyed its best season in many years under Rick's guidance. Check out the article below and interview with Steve Ellison.

New Website - thank you, Kerry and Chris!

During the break, Kerry and Chris updated our school website, giving it a new look. Like anything new, it will take some time for users to become accustomed to where things are, though the new site retains a similar feel. They will be in communication about these changes shortly.

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Replaces NCLB

One thing we count on in the school business is reform. In the case of the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the accountability question has been sent back to the states for the first time since the Reagan era. That's why the LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) is so important since it should provide the roadmap for assessing how we do as a school. Below are two varying viewpoints on ESSA to check out. We will spend some further time on this down the road...
