Back-to-School Information: 8/31/2020

Dear Lakewood Parents,

We are so excited to welcome our Lakewood Wildcats back to school, either virtually or face-to-face (F2F)! Please listen to the short video & read below for some important information about the start of school. These are our current plans. As you know the situation is very fluid, and we will probably need to make changes to our plans throughout the school year. Thank you!

Meet-the-Teacher for All Students (Must sign up for a time with your child's teacher)

Wednesday, Sep. 2nd, 8am-2pm

15614 Gettysburg Drive

Tomball, TX

Our teachers can't wait to meet their students on Wednesday! Please be sure to sign up for a 5 minute time increment with your child's teacher. The sign up is found in the email from your homeroom teacher. This will allow our students to be spaced out evenly over their grade level hour. (See grade level schedule below)

Also, please place a sign on your car dashboard with either F2F or Virtual & your teacher's name written in large, bold print. This will help us to quickly direct you to your child's teacher.

TISD Return to Excellence Handbook

Please click on the PDF below for the complete TISD handbook, which includes information regarding the learning options in TISD as well as provides updated information on health and safety protocols. This document is subject to change based on updated guidance the district receives from the CDC, TEA and local health officials.

TISD Parent & Visitor Procedures

  • In an effort to limit outside exposure and viral spread of COVID-19, parents & visitors will not be allowed inside TISD facilities during the fall semester of the 2020-21 school year. The district will reevaluate this decision before the start of the spring semester.
  • An appointment is needed to meet with campus staff. If possible, the meeting will be held virtually.
  • If a virtual meeting is not possible, only the person who makes the appointment may attend the in-person meeting to limit the number of visitors to the school at one time.

Schoology Learning Platform

  • All students (Virtual & F2F) will be utilizing the Schoology Learning Platform this school year.
  • Prior to the first day of school, students will be provided instructions on how to gain access to their courses, and will spend the first week of school learning how to navigate Schoology with teacher assistance.
  • Parents will soon receive steps for setting up their own parent account and how to link multiple children to that account for easy access to information.
  • Parents will be able to view assignments, discussions, calendar updates, and content that is shared by their child's teachers.

Face-to-Face Learning Information

1st Day of School

  • This year due to safety concerns, we are not able to allow parents to walk their children to class on the first day of school.
  • We will have extra staff on duty to assist students in locating their classrooms.
  • Later this week we will email you a virtual tour to help new students become familiar with the building.

Thank you for your understanding.

Masks & Social Distancing

  • Students are required to provide their own masks or face covering.
  • LES will provide all F2F students with a lanyard, which they can attach to their mask to prevent the mask from falling to the floor in case it is dropped.
  • Students in the 4th grade and above must wear a mask.
  • Students in PK-3rd grade are encouraged to wear a mask as much as possible; however, there will be instances when students below 4th grade will wear a mask.

Some examples in which all students will required to wear a mask include, but are not limited to:
  1. Arrival to and departure from the school building
  2. During transition times outside of the classroom
  3. Instructional activities where students are not able to social distance
  4. When using transportation services

  • If students PK-12 are not able to maintain social distance of 6 feet, they must wear a mask as developmentally appropriate.
  • If teachers are able to provide students with an opportunity to spread apart at least 6 feet, students and the teacher can remove their mask with the understanding that social distancing must be maintained.
  • Once social distance is not maintained, masks must be worn.
  • Face shields alone (without a medical exemption) are not allowed by students or staff.

Breakfast & Lunch

  • Students will be eating lunch and breakfast in the LES cafeteria. Students will sit at designated seats to allow for social distancing.
  • Per TISD guidelines, no lunch visitors are allowed for the fall semester.
  • Meal delivery for students is prohibited for the 2020-21 school year in all TISD schools.

Recess

  • Students will have recess outside, weather permitting.
  • Students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before & after recess.
  • Each class will have a designated area of the playground in which to play.
  • Classes will rotate areas throughout the week so that students will have the opportunity to use all areas of the playground.
  • If social distancing cannot be maintained, masks will be worn.
  • If the students are participating in a structured activity in which staff can montior social distancing, masks may be removed.

Water Bottles

  • We are asking all F2F students to bring a personal water bottle labeled with their name to school.
  • We will be discouraging the students from drinking directly out of the water fountain to help reduce the spread of the virus.
  • Students may use the water fountains or the water bottle filling stations in the cafeteria to fill their water bottles if needed throughout the school day.

Bell Schedules for F2F Students

  • Students are allowed to enter the school building at 8:10 am & will report directly to their classroom unless they are eating breakfast.
  • We begin our school day at 8:30 with a virtual Rise and Shine. This year, due to social distancing requirements, we will not have a live Rise & Shine Assembly in the cafeteria and gym.
  • We dismiss our students at 4:05 pm.

Attendance for F2F Students

  • The face-to-face learning option will follow traditional on-campus attendance procedures.

Specials for F2F Students

Transition times between specials classes have been increased to allow time for staff to clean commonly touched surfaces.

PE
  • PE classes will be held outside, as much as possible.
  • Homeroom classes will be kept separate from each other.
  • If social distancing cannot be maintained, masks will be worn.
  • If the students are participating in a structured activity in which staff can montior social distancing, masks may be removed.

Music

  • Music will be held in the music rooms, with students social distanced.
  • Singing is permitted if students and staff wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Art

  • Students will bring their school supply boxes to art class, to minimize sharing of supplies.

Arrival & Dismissal

  • Due to an anticipated increase in our number of car riders & to maintain social distancing during arrival & dismissal, we are making changes to our arrival & dismissal procedures.
  • More information will be coming later this week.
