Irving's life

  1. When Washington Irving was born they named him after George Washington. He was born in April 3, 1783. He was one of eleven children born to William and Sarah Irving. Even though he is famous for his writings, Irving actually studied law. In 1826 he became an American attache, or diplomat connected to an embassy, to Spain. then he went back to Spain as the American ambassador from 1842 to 1846. After this he spent most of the rest of his life at his home in New York. Before becoming an ambassador he had become a writer of a humorous form of art called satire. Most of his writings were historical.

Irving's Work

Irving made many many short stories such as Rip Van Winkle, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. His first book however was titled The History of New York which he did under the name of Diedrich Knickerbocker.
