For the Week of January 23, 2023

Big picture

Dear Families,

Snowcoming 2023 is this week!!! We hope that all students show their school spirit with the dress up days, spirit assembly and games for MS/HS, the banner contest to decorate the gym, the dance, and, of course, cheering on our Tekonsha Indians at the home basketball games this week! Indians fans can show up to support our Girls Basketball teams on Tuesday, January 24 and our Boys Basketball teams on Friday, January 27!

Weeks like Snowcoming are a great time to recognize all of the individuals that work behind the scenes to make these events possible for our students! We are so grateful for the hours that our staff put into being coaches and advisors of all of various teams, groups, and organizations. Without their willingness to take on these extra responsibilities, these events wouldn't be the same, or possibly wouldn't happen at all! So a special thank you to the following:

  • Boys Varsity Coach - Mr. Tim Jenkins
  • Girls Varsity Coach - Mrs. Aryn Henry
  • Cheerleading Coach - Mrs. Michele Stuart
  • Wrestling Coach - Mr. Harold Pickford
  • Robotics Coach - Mr. Ryan Groholske
  • Senior Class Advisor - Mrs. Kim Sayles
  • Junior Class Advisor - Mrs. Trisha Blashfield
  • Sophomore Class Advisor - Mrs. Vickie Runyon
  • Freshman Class Advisor - Mrs. Krista Groholske
  • 8th Grade Class Advisor - Mrs. Jessica Newland
  • 7th Grade Class Advisor - Mrs. Brenda Tew
  • 6th Grade Class Advisor - Mrs. Chloe Butler
  • Student Council Advisor - Mrs. Heather Layne
  • National Honor Society Advisor - Mrs. Krista Groholske

Decorated to Show Indian Spirit!

Thank you to the Tekonsha Cheerleaders and their coach Michele Stuart for decorating the hallways to help kick off Snowcoming Spirit Week! The hours spent over the weekend decorating windows, lockers, and even the ceiling help set the stage for a great week!

T-Town Tech!

Tekonsha High School is so excited to announce the beginning of T-Town Tech...our Tekonsha FIRST Robotics Team! Under the direction of Coach Ryan Groholske, high school students had their first chance to start the "build" of their robot for the 2023 season last week! This group also had the unique opportunity to create the team name! We are so grateful to all of the individuals that have helped get this started and can't wait to share the team's progress! Special shout-out to the Tekonsha Fire Department and Chief Daryl Cummins for providing the space for our team to meet for the season and to some anonymous community donors (J&J) that have provided generous financial support! What a great community and school collaboration!

If you are interested in becoming an individual or business sponsor for the team, you can complete the sponsor form below and return to the office!

Elementary Cheer Clinic

The Tekonsha Indian Cheer Team is hosting a cheer clinic for any elementary student in grades K-5. Notes will be going home with students this week to sign up for this program. Participating students will meet for three practices on 1/31, 2/1, and 2/2, from 3-4 in the elementary multipurpose room. All participants will then get the opportunity to cheer at a Tekonsha High School basketball game on February 3rd! The total cost of the clinic is $15, and each participant will receive a cheer shirt! Be sure to return a registration form no later than January 25 to the elementary office if your child is interested in participating!!

Earthquake Proof!

The 8th grade Earth Science class engineered earthquake proof buildings in the science lab last week. Just like a real world construction situation, students had limited resources (cardstock and tape) and limited time to build a paper building that could withstand a table shake test. Although many of the first draft buildings failed, students observed, modified, and re-engineered their buildings for a very successful second test! We love all of the hands-on learning that Mrs. Shedd is bringing to our students!

Student Congrats

Congratulations to the Tekonsha Elementary GOOD LISTENER Indians of the Week for the week of January 9-13.
