Class of 2022 Weekly Review
Week of October 19, 2020
A Note from Mrs. Opdyke
Thank you to those of you that participated in our survey last week. Based on your responses, we will keep our newsletter going each week. I'm so glad to hear that it provides useful information to you! Your suggestions have been heard and we will work to adjust the content accordingly whenever possible.
We had three trivia questions in last week's survey and three winners have been selected as they each answered two or more questions correctly or were closest to the correct answer. Congratulations to:
Molly Donnelly, Nina Lafratta and Mrs. Dana Hilton (mother of Brett Hilton)
You will be contacted this week to claim your prizes!!
The correct answers to the trivia questions were:
- There are total of 105 classrooms/learning spaces in CB South.
- There are 1,001 parking spaces for cars and 39 buses at CB South.
- Mr. Bui and Mr. London both attended CB South as students.
Keep checking our weekly survey for future opportunities to win prizes via trivia questions!
Mr. Monk, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Bui, and I will continue to be here to help in any way that we can. Please reach out if you need anything! However you are joining us for your classes, I wish you a successful week 7 of the school year.
Please stay healthy and well!
Mrs. Opdyke
Optimistic October

Standardized Testing Timeline
October 17th – PSAT/NMSQT (Results in December)
December through June – Students should take the SAT and or the ACT at least one time along with SAT Subject tests if necessary. SAT and ACT are not required by all colleges and universities; however, it may be wise to take one or both at least once in the event your son or daughter decides to apply to a school that does require scores. SAT Subject tests are often required by more selective colleges and universities.
Register at:
SAT - collegegboard.org
ACT - act.org
AP course exams: The exams take place during the first two weeks of May. Students work with their current AP teacher in joining the AP class through their Collegeboard account. Payment for the exams will begin at some point in January.

Safe2Say
Safe2Say is a valuable resource that has been set up by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a method for anyone to report a concern about a student or group of students 24/7. Please note some important reminders about the use of Safe2Say:
- If you put in a tip, please check back often for communications. The tip line is monitored 24/7 at the state level. The tip is sent to the school and/or police if it is deemed "Life Safety" immediately. It is sent in the morning if it is determined to be "Non-Life Safety." I will respond as soon as I am able to do so - this will always depend on the timing and nature of the tip.
- It is important to include as much information as possible. If you have evidence of your concerns, please share that evidence via the tip or with us. You can attach pictures and videos in the Safe2Say system.
- It is always best to try and contact Mrs. Davis, Mr. Monk, or myself directly if it is not a matter of life safety. We will likely be the ones to work through the concern and it is helpful to be able to speak directly with you.
Please remember that Safe2Say is statewide system that is used in collaboration with the State Attorney's Office, emergency responders, and school officials. It is important to know that tips are reviewed on the state level before being passed to the local police and/or school authorities. Please consider the purpose of your tip - Is it to provide another person with a way to receive help? Is it preventing an act of violence? Is it something that needs to involve local and state authorities? While the system is anonymous, abuse of the system will not be tolerated and actions will be taken if it is determined that the system is being used inappropriately.

Boomerang Awards
The CB Cares Boomerang Youth Recognition Award is a district-wide monthly program which recognizes and honors youth in our community for exemplifying and living by one of the chosen Developmental Assets for the school year. Please see the information below for October’s asset, as well as the attached nomination form and 20-21asset poster.
For October we are looking for nominees for the asset: Safety- Young person feels safe at home, school and in the neighborhood.
Nominations are due by end of day, October 23, 2020 to Matt Gale (magale@cbsd.org).
Please find the nomination form attached.
Don't forget - Students can nominate themselves or their friends too.
The Healthier Community Team made a suggestion that all nominations going forward should have an example of the asset in action in regard to the student, rather than just a description of the student that "he/she shows integrity all of the time". It is really helpful in terms of differentiating the nominees since they all are great kids - examples help make the choice easier.
