SHHS Graduate Among Louisiana University Students Who Play Taps at Veterans' Funerals

SHHS 2015 graduate, Kody Jernigan, is one of 10 trumpet players at Louisiana University who play taps at veterans' funerals rather than leaving the farewell bugle call to a recording. "A lot of people get a recording, and play it over a loudspeaker. It means something because it's the song. But when you have an actual person with the horn, and you hear the horn ring over the fields, it takes the breath out of your chest," said Kody.

Kody is is a music education major at the University of Louisiana in Monroe and is a member of Talons for Taps. Thank you Kody, for your service in this way to our veterans!

Junior High WAVE Group Fundraiser

Sixth grade student, Kylee Spivey, came up with a great idea to raise money for the junior high Wave Group. During Spring Break she made a "wheel of prizes." Students paid a dollar to spin the wheel and win a prize. This fundraiser raised $94 and will be used toward the group's next community service project.

Thank you Kylee for your compassion for others!
