What's News At Magee?
#6 - March 2018
Staying Safe at School
We practice fire drills each month, some are planned ahead and some are not. We practice tornado drills every spring. We practice evacuating the building and relocating to a safe place for a variety of reasons. And we practice lockdown drills in the event of an emergency, either in or outside of our building.
While the purpose of fire and tornado drills is clear; evacuation and lockdown can occur for many reasons. While discussing these situations in an age appropriate manner with students, staff emphasizes following adult directions in any emergency, rather than giving a list of "what if" reasons. Adults have been trained for many situations, participate in on-going/updates to the training, and have procedures and protocols in place to keep your children safe.
Students/children following adult directions is critical both in and out of school. Children should know that when a parent/adult uses the "mom/dad voice" in public, it is a time to listen and follow directions and that questions will be answered later. As parents, my husband and I told our children the same thing. They are both adults now - this rule still applies.
If you have any questions about drills we do or procedures that are in place, feel free to contact Mrs. Sterner.
Forward Testing
It is that time of year - when students in grades 3,4 and 5 take Wisconsin's required test, the Forward Exam. Testing at Magee will be from Wednesday, April 11 through Friday, April 27. Grades 3/4 will be taking the test on April 18, 19, 24. April 25, 26 will be fourth grade only taking the science and social studies portions that are required in grade 4. Fifth graders will be testing April 11, 12, 17, 18, 19. Teachers will share more specific information regarding each grade level in the coming days.
While getting good sleep and breakfast daily are generally a good habit to be in, it is especially important during this time to help students feel their best. If at all possible, scheduling appointments that avoid this time would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Parking Lot Safety
1. Students are dropped off in the car line around the school or parents PARK and WALK students across the crosswalk to the entrance. DO NOT drop kids off and send them through the cross walk without you.
2. NO CARS should go past the barricade that is up in the morning. Cars park or go through the drive AROUND the school. No cars should be dropping off in the front of the building.
3. PLEASE keep students with you when walking to the school or away from school after school. They should not run across the parking lot to school or to the car.
Thank you for your attention to these safety procedures!
