GET TO KNOW......Emily Combs
Tell us what you do in the CSD, how long you have been here and why you enjoy being a Cardinal.
I currently teach 6th and 7th grade math at Clinton Middle School. This is my 19th year at CMS! Where has the time gone? I enjoy being a Cardinal because I am passionate about providing my hometown students with great math experiences! I love the small town and being able to catch up with former students in the community.....while at the grocery store, getting my hair cut (by former students) and in the drive-thru! Over the past 19 years, I have worked with my former teachers as well as classmates. I get to teach every day with one of my good childhood friends, Crystal Roskop, whom I have known since my first day at CMS in 6th grade! I am a proud 1995 graduate of Clinton High School! Go Cardinals!
*Tell us a little bit about your family/where you are from.
I moved to Clinton from a very small town (Geneseo, KS) and started 6th grade at CMS (now the Intermediate School). In Geneseo, my class had 5 kids and K-8 had about 90. Coming to Clinton Middle School where I had 25 students per class, and a different group of students every hour, was crazy. I feel like I relate to “move-in” students well. I have two sisters who live in Clinton, Alexa Thompson and Andi Schmidt. My parents, Phil and Cheryl Craig, also live here. My dad, Phil, is retired but you can see his cattle on Sedalia Street. My mom opened White Flower Quilt Shop on the square a few years ago.
I am married to Brad Combs (1985 CHS grad) and we have two kids. Quintin Combs (2016 CHS grad) and Carley Combs who is currently in 7th grade. Brad is the Director of the Parks & Recreation Department. Quintin is attending State Fair Community College studying Agronomy. Carley loves gymnastics, choir & sewing!
*What is something people are obsessed with, but you just don't get the point of?
I have a smartphone and am guilty of being on social media all too often, but you won’t ever see me playing a game on my phone. I feel too guilty of something not getting done. I don’t have time for games on my phone and I definitely don’t need another reason to check it. LOL!
.
*Something that is considered a luxury, but you don't know how you would live without?
What I consider to be luxurious may vary from others. I am especially thankful for my health and the health of my family. I don’t take it for granted! I like things that make my life efficient! Cell phone, online banking, printer at home, internet at home. YES-- I just got internet 8 months ago and I live only 5 miles from the hospital!
*What are 3 things people would be surprised to know about you?
I hate cooking and going to the grocery store, but I am a good baker. Dessert is more my thing than putting together a meal. Brad is the chef in our house.
I love going to the pool, but hate getting in the water.
My first declared major in college was Sports Medicine/Athletic Trainer, with a minor in Recreational Therapy.
