Room 119 Updates
Mrs. Gurwitt's Class
Welcome Back!
I hope you had an amazing Winter Break! I wish you all a Happy New Year as well. Things are back in action here. The sleepy eyes of the kiddos are fading away. :-)
Just a few updates for the upcoming month.
Social Studies with Kilsby
The kids will be finishing up Social Studies with Ms. Kilsby on January 24th. Be on the lookout for their Sarcophagus project and their final test on Ancient Egypt.
Compare and Contrast Essay
Time to start another large essay! An expository essay of Compare and Contrast is next. You can ask to see progress on Google Drive in the upcoming weeks.
Student Council Elections
A big thank you to our first student council rep, Max! He did a fabulous job! After a WONDERFUL term served by Max, it is time to elect another representative. Elections will take place around the 21st, so please encourage your child to run. It is a wonderful experience!
Would you like to volunteer?
On January 30th, the 6th grade is taking a trip to the San Diego Symphony. Please be on the lookout for a permission slip tomorrow. Entrance to the Symphony is free; therefore, you only have to contribute to the bus. On our way back to school, we are going to stop at the UTC Food Court for lunch. Your child can bring money or a sack lunch.
We can not bring parents to the Symphony, but would love to have the extra eyes at UTC Mall. If you would like to volunteer, I would love to have the help! Please email me if you are interested. You would meet us in the Food Court at 12:30 to help us supervise.
Students are also required to have more formal attire for the symphony. No jeans or sneakers. Slacks, dresses, etc. (Good preparation for Promotion!)
Foundation for Learning
Want a fabulous seat at Promotion? Donations to the Foundation between August 1 and January 15 are eligible in the drawing for 4 front row seats!
Your donations fund our Art instructor and supplies, our PE instructor and equipment, our Science instructor and lab materials, computers, iPads for the classroom and much more!
PTA Assembly
Our PTA is hosting an outstanding assembly from 2:00-2:40 on Jan 31st. This assembly will feature Sam, a challenged athlete. Sam will share the incredible story of his life. He was born in Africa and is a victim of polio. His story of overcoming obstacles is amazing! I have heard that a lot of parents are interested in attending this assembly. You are more than welcome to join us!
Sandpiper of the Month
A big congratulations to Matt, our classroom winner of Sandpiper of the Month. He was recognized by his peers as the most courageous student in our class. As a new student who has made the switch to SP with ease, I completely agree! Great job Matt!
