A Word About Homework.....

As I shared with you at the Curriculum Night, homework in first grade is mostly about the routine and habit of homework. I really believe it is important for us to help kids get into the habit of reading every night for at least 20 minutes. I like to slowly add in new homework components as we move along through the year. I have found it is not as overwhelming for kids and families. This week your child will bring home their first Fluency Folder. It will come home every Tuesday and needs to be returned on Thursday. I will include in the folder information for parents about fluency and how the folder works. You can include the reading done from the folder as part of your child's nightly reading. And don't forget that reading homework at this point in the school year (especially for those beginning readers), can include parents reading to or with their child. I know that some kids are just learning to read or still working on their reading. The goal is to have them READ! It's a process and we are just getting started. In the next few weeks, we will start having spelling homework and then we will add in math fact fluency homework. In the mean time, enjoy reading together!

October Conferences

We have conferences scheduled October 12th, 13th, and 14th. Please return the Conference form with your top 3 choices. If you have other kids at Ridgecrest, let me know so I can coordinate with their classroom teacher. Also, please let me know if your family would like to have an interpreter available during the conference. Once I get it all organized I will put it all on a google doc and send that out.
