IN THE NEWS...
STAFF MEETING RE-SCHEDULED
To give each of you a head start on the long holiday weekend, we have rescheduled this week's staff meeting until next week, March 31st. This accommodation involved rescheduling our district representative's presentation so PLEASE ensure to attend the March 31st staff meeting. ALL teachers are expected to attend.
DATA/RE-TEACH PLANNING
Thank you in advance to all 3rd-6th grade teachers who will be digging deep into their DAR tools this week for student/item/TEKS analysis. A reminder that there will be no GLIMs for 3rd thru 6th grade teachers next week. Grades K-2 will meet. Special Ed (including speech) and ESL/BiL teachers, we would like to arrange a time to meet on Thursday, March 24th, to review the information shared at last week's GLIM.
A reminder to 3rd-6th grade teachers that your data homework is due at the end of your GLIM time on Thursday, March 24th. Your detailed re-teach plans ad calendars will be due March 31st.
To provide you with some extra time to analyze the data and plan re-teach, we are giving release time to Third-Sixth grade teachers who have STAAR in May. Each grade level will receive a half day of planning. The schedule will be:
March 24th -- 8:00-11:15 AM -- Third Grade Teachers Release
11:45 -3:00 PM -- Steinberger and Wontor Release
March 31st -- 8:00-11:15 AM -- Caten and Ward Release
11:45-3:00 PM -- Hanson and Jacob Release
TBD -- Melcher (will work with ILT to schedule)
STAFF INTENTIONS SURVEY FOR 2016-2017
A survey regarding your professional intentions for next year should be emailed out to you today. Please check your RISD email as well as your Google email. The ILT team will be starting some initial searches in the next couple weeks, starting with the district job fair in April. We would appreciate an idea of what our staffing needs will be prior to our search, so please fill out the survey by Friday, March 25th. It should only take a few minutes and only Mike and Rachel will see the results. Please see us if you would like to speak to us in person, and/or check the box on the survey saying you would like to set up a time to meet. This survey is for BOTH professionals AND paraprofessionals.
TUTORING
Tutoring will occur this week as planned. A friendly reminder that there is no tutoring next week due to STAAR testing. Please remind your students.
TUTORING SNACKS
PLEASE READ -- We had several teachers not follow the rules with tutoring snacks the last week of tutoring so it's apparent that several are not reading your weekly Stallion Star update!!!!! As reported,, our cafeteria was audited and we are not in compliance regarding tutoring snack counts. Therefore, it is an expectation that ALL teacher utilize the same procedure for requesting snacks. Following procedures is the key to making sure we do not lose our TITLE I funding for snacks.
Copies of the new Tutoring/Snack sheets were given to you (1 for Monday and 1 for Tuesday). You need to fill one out for each day and turn it in to Carlene when your students come to pick up the snacks.
ENROLLMENT
Please be very purposeful at asking the entire class if they have any packets to turn in -- as each packet will be day/time-stamped. A student's spot that is saved can be the difference between whether the packet was collected first thing in the morning or at the end of the day.
GROUP PICTURES
Group picture day and spring individual pictures has been cancelled for Tuesday, March 15, 2016. We will let you know the new date as soon as we have it set.
FIELD TRIPS
Field trip season is dawning. Please refer to the field trip procedures in the staff handbook or see Carlene to ensure you are following protocol. Our calendar is filling up for the end of the year and many special events occur for the end of the year, so please plan ahead to avoid conflicts. The last day for field trip requests is April 8th. They will not be approved after.
Also, please note that it is best practice to not hold any field trips on STAAR days, and this is the first year we have STAAR testing in May. This applies to even NON-STAAR grades. It is best practice because administrators (whether it be campus on district) should be available to handle any emergencies that occur off-site on field trips. On STAAR days, district and campus administrators are in high demand to address STAAR issues. For this reason, field trips will not be approved for our STAAR days in May -- May 9th, 10th and 11th. Please plan accordingly.
SUBMISSIONS TO THE STALLION STAR
Anyone is welcome to submit entries to our weekly staff newsletter. Please email any submission requests to Carlene by the Thursday before publishing.
STAAR HELPFUL HINTS
It is IMPERATIVE that EVERY team member cross-checks IEPs, 504s, and ESL resources to check each child is receiving the appropriate accommodations. Do NOT assume that if a student does not leave the classroom to take the test in small group, that the child does not receive any accommodations. Some accommodations are provided in small group, while some accommodations are to be provided with the whole group testing as well --- it is SO important to check the plans!

* Our entire staff!!! -- for a successful SIM week! It was great to see the initial STAAR procedures in action and knowing what testing behaviors we need to work on going forward. As tough as it was for both STAAR and non-STAAR grades, we hope you all benefited from practicing the basic procedures. Please read the section STAAR Helpful Hints to see where there were lapses in procedures and grab ideas to help run the process even better.
