Library Makerspaces
in Denton ISD
What is a Makerspace?
A makerspace is DIY space where students can gather to create, invent, and learn. In libraries they often have cardboard, K’nex, robotics, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools, and more. It is not about the stuff students make, but it is about the meaning the students make!
Why the library?
“To me, a makerspace is more of an idea, it’s the idea that the library is a place for students to create not just consume. We want our students to be able to walk in, decide to create something, and have the tools to make it. The library is the one place in the school where EVERY kid has access EVERY day. Plus, the library is a great place to build community and we are already following a constructivist learning approach.” - Teacher Librarian Colleen Graves
