Celebrating Holy Communion and the Ordinance of Humility
Attire: We will be wearing black with our communion red; males - red tie / white shirt, females - red blouse and brooch. New elders, please reach out to your assigned mentors for additional details as needed. Elder Mitch is ordering communion ties and brooches for our new elders; however, we may need an alternative in case those don't arrive in time.
Our Pastoral Team is asking each of us to take time this week to prepare spiritually for this sacred service of remembrance. This chapter from The Desire of Ages entitled, "A Servant of Servants" speaks to the humility with which Christ served, even as he faced the certainty of death on the cross. May we follow Christ's example of humble service so that we may "share with Him the joy of seeing souls redeemed."
As you prepare, we ask that you please take a few moments to review this week's services and elder assignments. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact your team leader.

"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you."
Joel 2:25
“By watchfulness and prayer, [we] may so guard [our] weakest points that they will become [our] strongest points. Through the grace of Christ, [we] may acquire moral stamina, strength of will, and stability of purpose…to rise above the alluring, infatuating temptations of Satan, and to become loyal, devoted Christians.”

The Lydia Bond Retreat for AEC Female Elders - RSVP by March 31st
We are excited that our own Elder Saundra Austin will be leading a season of prayer during this year's Lydia Bond Retreat for AEC's female elders. Elder Sheryl Brown-Norman has crafted an interactive activity entitled, "Where are the Lydias?" that will engage elders in specific prayer opportunities.
The Lydia Bond Retreat is for female elders in Allegheny East Conference. The conference is scheduled for April 21-22, 2018 at the Liberty SDA Church in Baltimore, MD. This would be an excellent opportunity for our CHC female elders to fellowship with other female elders and grow spiritually with one another. Lady elders who are interested in attending should connect with Elder Austin as soon as possible. There may be opportunities to consolidate travel during the weekend.
"March for Our Lives" Rally in DC this Sabbath
Karen Hayes, CHC's Community Services Director, has informed us that buses will be parking at RFK Stadium, and - depending on Metro's capacity - marchers could potentially end up walking past CHC sometime on Sabbath morning. CHC is planning to have some water and snacks available in the event participants walk down Massachusetts Avenue enroute to the rally. Please feel free to greet or otherwise encourage any marchers who may pass or enter CHC on Sabbath.

CHC Elder Ministry Mission Statement:
As Elders of Capitol Hill SDA Church, we are called to care for the flock that God has entrusted to us; and we will watch over it faithfully and willingly, not grudgingly—not for what we will get out of it, but because we are eager to serve God.
