Updates
Before Thanksgiving, students were asked to disguise a turkey for homework. Disguises included: an old man, Harry Potter, a DJ, and more! Last week, students wrote persuasive speeches convincing Thanksgiving "feasters" not to eat their turkey. Here's a sample of some of our turkeys in disguise.

Classroom Updates
This month, our social emotional learning blocks will focus on kindness. Throughout the month, we will work on projects centered around kindness. Check out the Kindness Bingo activity below. Feel free to try out some of these choices at home.
This week, we began a new math unit focusing on multiplication and division concepts. This unit will continue to reinforce strategies we have learned during our last two units, along with learning division strategies. Attached, you will find a game you can print and play at home with your child.
Writing:
In writing, we continue to write our persuasive speeches. Most recently, students worked on writing a strong introduction and conclusion, using persuasive language, and addressing their audience throughout their speech. Over the next few weeks students will edit their writing by checking for spelling and punctuation.
Reading:
This week, we began a unit focusing on nonfiction reading. We started by discussing how nonfiction reading is different from fiction reading. Over the past few days, we have discussed how we can use text features to support our learning. Below you will find a list of text features we have discussed.
Social Studies and Science:
Over the past few weeks, students have learned various ways to record the weather. Most recently, students have tracked the weather over 10 days to track the accuracy of the weather forecast. Feel free to try this at home with your child. Click here to track the weather in our area.
Ask your child
- How can you show kindness towards others?
- What strategies can you use to multiply a number x1, x2, x5, and x10?
- Why are text features important in nonfiction texts?
- How can we track and record the weather?
