Summer Updates from Medway Middle School 8/15/2022
News from the Principal
Greetings from Medway Middle School. I hope that you and your family have been enjoying the summer months. At Medway Middle School, we have all taken some time to rest and recharge this summer while also planning for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. As we inch our way closer to the end of August, the are many important updates that we want to share with you. You will find these highlighted below.
One of our goals this year is to increase and expand our communications with families. We'll be sharing more details about this soon, but to open the lines of communication, I will be sharing bi-weekly updates with the Medway Middle School community in the form of this newsletter. In order to help structure the information, I’ll include new information at the top and keep other relevant information under headings such as Reminders, District Information, Resources, and Important Dates so that you may review relevant information. We will also be expanding our presence on social media. Our goal is to keep information at your fingertips.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you and your children.
Best,
Amanda Luizzi
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Student Schedules
Our counselors have worked diligently to create schedules that meet student needs and create balance in classes. As you can imagine this is a complicated process. As such, we will not be able to accommodate any requests to change classes to be near a friend or to be with a specific teacher. Should your child have a hole in their schedule or services are inadvertently left off of their schedule, please fill out the Google Form next to your child's counselor's name. Our Guidance Counselors return to work for the year during the week of August 22nd and will respond to you at their earliest convenience.
Guidance Team
Mr. Marcus Hatt, Mhatt@medwayschools.org- Grade 5 and Grade 7 A-FE
Mrs. Taralynn Turner- Tturner@medwayschools.org - Grade 8 and Grade 7 FI-MC
Mrs. Kelsey Yim* - KYim@medwayschools.org Grade 6 and Grade 7 ME-Z
*We are excited to welcome Mrs. Kelsey Yim, an experienced guidance counselor, to our team. We ask that families of students on Ms. Yim's caseload copy Mrs. Marien on all schedule-related communication until the school year officially starts. This will ensure that we are able to support all families during Mrs. Yim's onboarding process.
Parent Portal
Parent Portal
The Parent Portal is a vital resource to help families stay up to date on students’ assignments, grades, and contact information. We encourage all families to utilize this resource regularly. If a guardian does not have an account, please email parent@medwayschools.org and we will forward a personal activation code to create an account. Please note that students can access the portal by selecting the Google Single Sign-On (SSO) option. We plan to activate the 22-23 school year by August 17, 2022.
Did you know? Parents can use the parent portal to submit an absence request instead of calling the school. Simply log into the parent portal, choose MORE from the left menu, then select Absence Request from the available options to submit your request. Requests can be made at any time before the date of absence and provides an option to upload a doctor’s note for excused absences.
Open School
Please note that there is no official program for this day and it is voluntary. We have reserved this time as we understand that seeing a learning space before day one helps many students feel more comfortable in their learning environment. Teachers will not be present for this event and classrooms will not be set up completely, but we will have everything ready for the first official day of school!
Grade 5 & New Student Information
5th Grade & New Student WEB Orientation - Where Everyone Belongs-- August 23rd
We are excited to welcome our incoming 5th graders, and all students new to our community to our WEB Orientation on Tuesday, August 23rd. Orientation will run from 8 am-12:15pm. WEB leaders will greet students in the front of the building and help students navigate to their orientation spaces indoors. For additional information about your child's transition to Medway Middle School, please feel free to view our Transition Site. Please don't hesitate to call the office should you have further questions about the 5th grade experience.
WEB Drop off Directions:
Students should be dropped off for WEB by using the entrance closest to the gravel parking lot and following the directions on the diagram in the photo below. Staff members will be present to greet students and send them to their orientation leader. Carpooling is STRONGLY encouraged.
WEB Pick Up:
We will be utilizing our traditional pick-up procedures for WEB Orientation. Due to the number of students that will be participating in this event, we will utilize a staggered dismissal.
Dismissal times are listed below.
12:10 pm: Students in Burnham, Downing, Kelley, and Waugh's Homerooms and all Grade 6-8 students new to MPS
12:20 pm: Students in Lindsey, Taccini, Weber-Drummey, and Wenson's Homerooms
If you are carpooling, and students are not scheduled for the same pick-up, students will be dismissed with the 12:20 pm dismissal group. If your child is scheduled to be picked up at 12:20 pm, please do not arrive at Medway Middle School before that time.
Families are asked to enter the same parking lot they entered for drop-off and line up as indicated in the photo illustration below. Please fill in section 1 first, followed by 2, etc. Staff will be there to guide you through the dismissal procedures.

Guardian and Student Information Review Process
MPS requests that all guardians complete a process within Infinite Campus that allows you to review and verify the existing information within the system. To complete this process please login to the Parent Portal via a computer by clicking here, then choose MORE > Online Registration from the left menu. Follow the prompts to review and confirm the information we have on file. Please note that it may be difficult to complete the forms via a smartphone. Guardians without a portal account can email parent@medwayschools.org for an activation code.
In addition to this student and family information review, MPS would like to advise guardians that email and phone number changes can be submitted through the portal anytime during the year. Simply select MORE > Family Information from the menu options, then Update on the individual whose information you are updating. Please note that address changes cannot be made through this system as these require proof of residency. Please forward any address changes to parent@medwayschools.org, including a copy of the proof of residency. Click here for POR information.
Communication
If you are not receiving email communications from the district or the schools, we are here to help. Please email parent@medwayschools.org and a team will work to ensure that you are connected.
