Interim Superintendent Announced

May 16, 2022: Message from Dr. Darin Gilpin, BOE President

BCS Community:

At our regular board of education meeting this evening, Ronald (Ron) E. Stephens, IV was named interim superintendent of Berkeley County Schools, effective July 1, 2022. Stephens will serve for one year, July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, during which time the Board of Education will conduct a search for superintendent of schools.

We feel that Mr. Stephens has a unique perspective and the complete ability as a current assistant superintendent to step into this position and lead the district while the Board of Education conducts a thorough search for the next superintendent of schools. Ron's professional experience, educational background, and community-based enthusiasm are foundational attributes that will help him carry out the vision of the district.

The Board, Mr. Stephens, and Superintendent Murphy will work together to build and implement a plan to ensure a smooth transition of district leadership while maintaining our goals and objectives for student and staff success.

As always, we are appreciative of your support. Thank you very much.

Dr. Gilpin, Board of Education President
