21 Sports ... 1 Team ... WE ARE HOBART
This week we saw our football team pick up another convincing NCC win on the road, our volleyball team finish the regular season, both of our soccer teams bow out to top area programs, both of our cross country teams tackle the hills of Lemon Lake at the Crown Point Sectional, and a tennis player advance to the Regional Finals in individual play!
STATE TOURNAMENT SERIES ... FALL MADNESS!!!

Boys Tennis
On Tuesday over at Munster High School, Evan DOMINATED the #1 singles player from Hammond Morton and advanced with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory!
On Wednesday, again at Munster High School, Kara's story changed but the end result was the same ... after dropping the first set 4-6 against the #1 from Rensselaer, it was a COMEBACK STORY that unfolded as Evan won the next two sets 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the REGIONAL FINAL!
On Thursday - playing his third elimination match in 3 days - Evan's EXCITING post-season run finally came to an end against the #1 singles player from area powerhouse Crown Point.
Though the season has finally come to a close for Evan and our boys tennis team - it was a terrific year for this group of young men ... one that showed the future is bright as our boys will only graduate one senior from our top 7!
Thank you to Coaches Davis and Walsh for all your hard work with these boys and CONGRATULATIONS to our boys tennis team and #1 singles player EVAN KARA for a great year!

Football
Hobart struck EARLY and OFTEN by keeping it on the ground behind a terrific performance from the offensive line! In total, Hobart rushed for a SEASON HIGH 400 yds ... senior Sal Valle finished with 168 of them on just 12 carries (14 yds/carry) and scored a career high 4 TOUCHDOWNS! It certainly wasn't a one-man-show as Hobart "spread the wealth" utilizing a number of weapons out of the backfield ... Senior Noah Olmos ran for 83 on 8 carries and scored a touchdown, junior DJ Lipke ran for 82 on 9 carries and scored a touchdown, sophomore Riley Johnston got in on the act as well with 6 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown ... sophomore Ben Ward finished it off with 10 carries for 33 yards ... WOW, WHAT A PERFORMANCE! THAT'S BRICKIE FOOTBALL!!!
Yet another DOMINANT showing from the Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE limited the Mustangs to just 235 yards of total offense.
With the regular season finale next Friday night at Lowell, Hobart currently stands with a record of 7-1 on the season, 3-1 in NCC play and ranked #13 in the state 4A poll!

Volleyball
On Tuesday at the Munster Fieldhouse, our girls lost in 3 games 25--13, 25-12, 25-9. Sophomore Sasha Thomas led the Brickies with 15 serves returned and 7 digs. Junior Addison Metts finished with 4 kills and 3 blocks and sophomore Jessica Fazekas added 3 assists.
On Thursday at Andrean, the girls again fell in 3 games on senior night for the 59ers.
It's been an up and down year for our girls ... battling some injuries these last few weeks in particular ... however, with sectional play beginning Thursday, we are hoping to be back to full strength and looking to put the pieces together for an exciting tournament!
As Dorothy once said, "There's no place like home" ... and the Brickies will look to take advantage of playing the role of HOST of this year's IHSAA sectional tournament! Maybe we can use a Wizard of Oz reference to help us witness a Cinderella story?
GOOD LUCK LADIES!

2018 IHSAA VOLLEYBALL STATE TOURNAMENT - SECTIONAL 2 BRACKET
Soccer
Our girls soccer team faced off with #1 ranked Valparaiso on Tuesday night at the IHSAA Sectional hosted by the Vikings. Valpo scored early to take a 1-0 lead, but the Brickies fought right back and answered with a junior Grace Nestich goal in the 1st 10 minutes of play!
Unfortunately ... after the exciting start ... the Lady Brickies were on their heels all night chasing the talented Vikings. It was a tough way to exit such a GREAT YEAR by our girls as Valpo finished off the Brickies by the final score of 9-1.
We finished 7-6-1 in the regular season and 3rd overall in the NCC with a 3-2 mark. Without a doubt it was one of the most exciting girls teams we've had in recent memory as the girls won 3 games in a double OT shootout!!
Thank you to Coaches Provins and Considine for working hard with these fine young ladies and CONGRATULATIONS to our girls on a terrific fall season!
Boys
Our boys team traveled to the IHSAA Sectional at Portage High School on Monday night to take on the host Indians. Portage had defeated the Brickies in a close game 2-1 just a few weeks ago ... so the fans knew it would be another close match-up! Hobart controlled much of the 1st half against the athletic and physical Indians, but couldn't find the net and trailed 1-0 at the break. Portage would tack on 2 more goals in the next 40 minutes and ultimately end the year for our boys by the score of 3-1. Senior Cameron Tarry scored Hobart's lone goal with a few minutes remaining in the contest.
The 3 wins this year are more than the previous two years combined ... and we were more and more competitive as the year progressed. Although the Brickies graduate some impact players, this group is headed in the right direction!
Thank you to Coaches Weinman and Harris for all your hard work this year and CONGRATULATIONS to our boys for staying FOCUSED ON THE JOURNEY and making us PROUD!

Cross Country
Saturday morning at Lemon Lake County Park, our cross country teams raced in the IHSAA Sectional looking to advance to next weekend's REGIONAL. The TOP 5 teams in the sectional advance
On wet grounds and hilly terrain, the girls ran well and placed 3rd OVERALL in the Crown Point Sectional! Lemon Lake is one of the toughest courses in the northern part of the state and our GIRLS DID SHINE! Seniors Holly and Christina Shaginaw were again near the front placing 6th and 7th overall ... freshman Sydney Belk was right on their heels in 8th ... senior Elena Polizotto and freshman Paige Solivais rounded out the top 5 runners for Hobart in 23rd and 26th place respectively. Lilly Butler and Mikayla Fuentes added depth to the Brickies line-up as they finished in 40th and 41st.
With the 3rd place finish, the girls will advance to run in the Crown Point REGIONAL next Saturday (again at Lemon Lake) for the 8th CONSECUTIVE YEAR!
GREAT WORK LADIES!!!
Boys
Coach Artherhults has been known to use the phrase "Brickies Run On Dirt" - a nice play on the popular Dunkin Donuts slogan ... fortunately Brickies also "Run On MUD" because that was the course condition on Saturday after the girls race concluded. Still, the boys raced well and finished 5th OVERALL to advance to the REGIONAL next Saturday!
Junior Bryan Cherry led the way for Hobart finishing in 8th overall ... sophomore Bruce Leipart placed 16th ... seniors Logan Reid (28th) and James Corgan (33rd), along with freshman Joe Meagher (35th), rounded out the Brickies top 5. Also racing for Hobart at the Sectional were freshmen Ian Freimuth (44th) and Jonah Wells (47th).
With the 5th place finish, the boys will advance to run in the Crown Point REGIONAL next Saturday (again at Lemon Lake) for the 11th CONSECUTIVE YEAR! WOW!!
GREAT JOB GUYS!!!
