Artists in Music

In the 60's, something happened called the 'British Invasion'. The british invasion refers to the sudden increase in British culture. The Beatles are the main topic here, and along with them came many other bands. British music had increasingly complex ideas as well as a distinct sound. Especially by the time British psychedelia, bands such as Cream, The Who and of course, Pink Floyd.

Popular Directors in Film and Television

Popular Directors were Sergio Leone, who made A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Stanley Kubrick, who directed the controversial Lolita and other classics such as A Space Odyssey and Dr. Strangelove. And there is Samuel Fuller who did Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss.

Popular Actors in Film and Television

Popular actors in films and television were Steve McQueen in Bulitt, The Great Escape, and The Magnificent Seven. There was also Warren Beatty in Bonnie and Clyde, Splendor in the Grass, and Mickey One. As well as Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler, and Cool Hand Luke. Then there is Clint Eastwood in A Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Not to mention Andy Griffith of the Andy Griffith Show. And finally Sean Connery, who stars in James Bond.

Musicals and Theatre

There are far too many musicals and plays to list, but there were not as many super popu were many popular theatre shows in the 60’s, such as The Fantasticks with over 17k showings, Oliver!, Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’be, Fiddler On The Roof, and Man of La Mancha.

Visual Arts

Psychedelic art led the way in visual art in the 1960’s. Painters such as Doug Binder, Brummbaer, James Clifford, Roger Dean were popular and made psychedelic

Dance

The dances at the time came in as fads or crazes, how people now like to ‘whip’ or ‘dab’, in the sixties people would ‘hit the monster mash’.


There were a lot of dance crazes in the 60’s such as The Twist, Locomotion, Hitch Hike, Stroll, Continental, Madison, Monster Mash, Watusi, Monkey, Frug, Mashed Potato, Bristol Stomp, Pony, Fly, Cool Jerk, and The Swim.
