Dystopian: Corporate Control
How Do Celebrities Control Society Corporately?
Growing up, we're so used to seeing celebrities on television advertising for companies. We're oblivious to the fact that their advertisements have huge impacts on us. But how much of an impact is it when it comes to celebrity endorsements?
Example A
For an example, here we have Beyonce pushing a cart full of pepsi cans. This is a great way to advertise your product, is it not? I mean, you have world wide known singer, Beyonce who is know as the "queen of pop", pushing a cart full of your product. Who wouldn't buy it? Obviously the corporations want you to purchase this beverage because the "queen of pop" is drinking it then so should you.
Example B
Here we have Emma Watson posing for Lancôme, a makeup product. If you don't know who Emma Watson is by now then you must be living under a rock. Emma is an English actress and model. Mainly known for her appearance in all of the 8 Harry Potter films that began in 2001. What they are trying to say is that if you don't have the confidence, or if you feel as if you don't look goo enough, then you should buy this product to look like the campaigner. So of course you'd want someone like Emma to be the face of your current product to help increase the profit since she's one of the star actresses in the Harry Potter film. It would boost up the sales of the product and is also advertising the film, which is a win win for both Lancôme and the film.
Example C
LeBron James here is advertising for his new sneaker line, LeBron 11s. Of course children, adolescents and adults would buy this product because for one, Lebron is the face of this campaign and he is the person who designed/created this product. There are many reasons why people may purchase this product. They may buy it because it looks nice, they like how it feels, many other reasons. But one of the main reasons why they would purchase this is because of LeBron James himeself. LeBron is an idol to many because of where he is now. Which is living his dreams playing in the NBA. So of course his supporters will buy a product that was designed by him. And others may buy it because they may see their friends wearing them and think that it's a new trend so it's a must have.

What Are The Negative Issues of Celebrity Endorsements?
There is a theory that 'borrowing' a celebrity for their fame and power is a way to create both an awareness and interest of the product. But the right way to endorse a celebrity into your product is that for one, you have to choose someone who gives off positive energy for the target of your product, a person who gives you that vibe where you're buzzing and you have to make sure that the person is likable. And also someone who has experience in your product. But the cons of having a celebrity represent your product is if they do something that makes their image look bad and that's where the company/sponsor drops the celebrity. For example, Kellogg dropped Michael Phelps after a photo of him smoking marijuana was released. Another example is when South African Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius was charged for for shooting and evidently killing his girlfriend which led to Nike, Oakley and many other big companies to drop him.
What Are The Positives When It Comes To Celebrity Endorsements?
On the other hand, celebrity endorsements do have their bright sides. An example is broadcasting a clip of a celebrity getting their daily exercise and eating healthy can be a huge influence for children and young adults. Exposing that would have them engage into staying fit.
