Thank the Snow
Zoe
Somehow snow can make everything better again.
It covers up all the dirt and mud
And if I don’t think
Then I can believe it’s all just snow
With nothing underneath
Eventually the plows come
Or spring finally defeats winter
Reveling in the loss of it’s frigid grasp
And kids cheer because there’s no more shoveling
And adults cheer because there’s no more slipping
But I...
I will mourn the loss of snow
Because even as it turns to
Slush, slop, sludge
And I can see all the things the snow hid
Because for a while
The world was pure and untouched and pretty
Even though I know spring will always come
And tear away the veil of white
I know eventually snow will fall again
So I thank the snow

Now in middle school, Zoe has loved to write for a long time. She first started with a book called "Spring is Here" which was written and illustrated in kindergarten. She still has it. Zoe started writing poetry soon after reading Where the Sidewalk Ends. One of her all time favorite poets in Maya Angelou, author of "Still I Rise". When she's not scribbling down new ideas, she can be found playing her saxophone or swimming laps.
