Great History Challenge
Congratulations to the eight students who traveled to Cincinnati on February 20th to compete in the The Great History Challenge Regional Championship.
SMS qualified six students at this event who can now move on to the National Championship to be held in Chicago in May. Those who earned an opportunity to move on include: Greyson Campbell (6th); Griffin Owens and Lance Broyer (7th); and Joey Heacock, Finn Sawin, and Clancy Myers (8th).
In addition to qualifying for the Nationals, three SMS students were also recognized for placing in the Top 5 for their grade level. Those students are: Greyson Campbell (6th), Griffin Owens (7th), and Finn Sawin (8th).
Love Like Andre Day
In celebration of a former SMS student and the love he spread to everyone he met, Tuesday, February 27th is Love Like Andre day.
All students, faculty, and staff members are encouraged to wear stripes or a hat, just like Andre loved to wear.
In order to learn more about Andre, student can watch the short video that is linked on the SMS Community page in Canvas.
Report Card Reminders
The fourth six weeks ended on Friday, February 23rd.
Report cards will be published in Harmony Family Access on February 28th.
Students' grades from the third six weeks and fourth six weeks of each course are averaged to create a trimester grade. It is labeled "Final" on their report card.
Eligibility for extracurricular activities is based on students' six week grades.
Eligibility for end-of-year medals is based on trimester grades. Medals are awarded by GPA, not by all As or by all As and Bs.
SMS Shoutouts
SMS students, faculty, and staff now have the opportunity to share a positive shoutout to anyone at SMS. The Google form to submit shoutouts is linked on the SMS Community page in Canvas.
All approved shoutouts are displayed on the Warrior Window.
Yearbooks on Sale
SMS yearbooks for the 2023-2024 school year are on sale for $17 until April 1st.
You can order a yearbook by visiting https://inter-state.com/YearbookEntry/82507K or by using a paper order form that is available in the office to pay by cash/check.
Yearbooks will arrive in mid-May.
ILEARN Assessments
Indiana's ILEARN assessment window is Monday, April 15th through Friday, May 10th.
SMS plans to have students complete the assessments on April 16-18, April 22-25, and April 30-May 2.
Please try to avoid student absences/appointments on these ten days.
Spring Sports Season
Spring sports are gearing up.
Baseball tryouts are February 27-29 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the SMS West Gym.
Softball and track/field practices start this week.
Golf and girls' tennis practices start the week of March 4th.
Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about tryouts, practices, and events.
Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

Scott 2 Calendar Reminders
The next three images contain reminders about some upcoming calendar events in Scott 2.
Monday, April 8th was changed to an eLearning day. The state created a website with some helpful resources related to the solar eclipse.
The 2024-2025 school calendar is also shown below for those of you who prefer to plan ahead.
Technology Reminder
As a reminder, students should only use their school-issued iPad and all of their school accounts for tasks that their teachers assign.
Students should not use their iPad or accounts for chatting via Google docs, searching non-education related terms/phrases, or any other activity that isn't directly related to something that a teacher assigned.

Our morning supervision person arrives at that time.
Reminders for Walkers
Please be careful when crossing the streets, utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and follow the street crossing signs.
Officer Nicholson has met with all students regarding safety at school and throughout the community.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.
Student Handbook Update
The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some updates for the 2023-2024 school year. The most significant changes took place in the attendance section.
