From designers experienced with website animation
What is the best way to add an animated "video" host to a website?
My employer runs an e-commerce website that sells auto parts. The company is considering adding an animated dog to the product detail page to highlight the additional parts customers would have to purchase in order to install the part in which they have shown an interest. The dog would act as an animated website guide.
Dog first appears
Dog walks onto screen and acknowledges part at which user is looking with a sniff.
Dog starts searching
Dog sniffs around for related part.
Dog points
Dog points to the related parts in the Related Parts panel. When user clicks on related part dog pants and wags excitedly.
Do you know the best practices for adding an element like this?
My reading would indicate that it is not yet possible to do this type of thing in HTML5. This would still have to be done in flash, which would limit the element's visibility on mobile devices.
So my question is, what are the best practices for adding an element like this?
