Take a Taste Tuesday
Today, Mrs. Musgrave’s class got to taste Lentils representing the letter “L” for Take a Taste Tuesday. Lentils are a legume. Although we think of legumes as being beans, lentils are actually seeds that grow in pods on bushes. There are only 2 seeds to a pod. Lentils can be green, black or red. They are very high in protein, fiber, and iron and provide a nutritious source of carbohydrate energy. Mrs. Musgrave’s students each tried a spoonful of cooked lentils. Miss Grace simmered the lentils in water for 30 minutes, then added a little salt, pepper and garlic powder. All but two students said they would be willing to try lentils again. We learned that when we try new things more than once, sometimes our taste buds learn to like them! How about trying some nice lentil soup on a cold day during the winter vacation.
Friendly Reminders -
The Carlisle Elementary staff wishes you and your family a safe and relaxing Holiday Break. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, January 3rd.
As we move towards the 2nd school semester, we encourage you to help us teach your child independence by limiting the number of times you join him/her for lunch.
In the event of winter weather please refer to the PISD web page at www.pisd.edu for school closings. School closings will also be listed on all local radio and TV stations.
Your Child’s Immunization Records
Did you know that you can access the entire immunization record that the school has on file for your child? All you have to do is sign in to the Parent Portal. This is the same website that you go to update your child’s information at the beginning of the school year: parentportal.pisd.edu
Once you have logged in to the main screen, if you look on the right side of the screen and scroll down near the bottom you will see “Immunization Summary.” You can print your child’s school immunization record from this screen.
Lost and Found
Brrrrrr. Baby it's cold outside. The Lost and Found has exploded! Over 50 items are now on hangers and unclaimed. The rack will remain by the cafeteria Thursday and Friday but will be brought to the front lobby on Monday 12/12 for the week. On Friday 12/16 all items will be donated to charity.

Free Vision Care for Students – Lion’s Club
The Lion’s Club is sponsoring a free vision clinic for all Plano ISD students at Sigler Elementary School on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
The clinic is meant to serve students whose family income falls below 200% of the federal income guidelines. In addition, it is meant to serve students without insurance coverage for vision care.
Students will receive a free examination and be fitted for free glasses on the same day. The glasses will be delivered about 4-6 weeks later. The parent must attend with the student. Sigler Elementary is located at 1400 Janwood Dr., Plano TX. 75075.
There are limited appointments available. If you are interested in having your child evaluated, please contact Miss Grace at 469-752-0609 or at Judith.grace@pisd.edu as soon as possible.
Free Vision Care for Students – VSP coupons
Miss Grace can also provide a coupon for free vision care which includes an examination and glasses (limited frame choices). These coupons are for families with limited or no insurance. The same income guidelines apply.
