Welcome Back To School

Welcome Back to the 2020-2021 School Year! This newsletter will be used to communicate with students and parents about scholarships, financial aid, college/university visits, events, college entrance exams, and more. While most of the information will pertain to the senior class, it will also benefit the 9th-11th graders as well. KEEP YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES UP-TO-DATE in both Skyward and Naviance. This is our primary way to communicate with students and parents.

Class of 2021 - Application season is underway! Many Texas colleges/universities opened their applications on July 1st, with most of the remainder opening on August 1st. If you are planning on applying to a Texas public college or university, make sure you create your Apply Texas account now. The beauty of Apply Texas is that you can complete one application, then copy it for another school (eliminating the need to re-type/re-enter all of the information that you already entered). Don't create more work for yourself by opening applications up for several different schools at the same time.

Class of 2022 - This is an important year for you. You will be taking PSAT in October, and your score could qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship process. So take some time now to study for the exam...the higher your score, the better your chances. If you become a National Merit finalist, it could mean free college tuition!

Class of 2023 - Hopefully, you had a successful academic year during 2019-20 to get your high school GPA off to a good start. If it wasn't so successful, work hard this year and in 11th and 12th grade to get back where you need to be. Don't wait until senior year to try and make repairs. This year should be a research year for you. Figure out what you want to do after graduation by taking advantage of the assessments in Naviance to find your strengths, realize your aptitudes, and what areas you are naturally inclined to do well in your future interest. Then your junior year is time to research colleges and programs that can educate or train you in those areas of interest.

Class of 2024 - Welcome to high school, and more specifically, welcome to Willowridge High School. Freshman year is the time to do well to set your beginning high school GPA in a good place. Explore the different clubs and extracurricular activities that are available at school and get involved. Think to your future and what you want your high school resume to look like when it is time for you to apply to colleges
