HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 1 Week 8 - 29 March 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents/Guardians
Rohr writes that the path to unity can be a challenging one. Quite the message!
Thanks to Holly Butson, our Library Officer and Pastoral Worker – Student well-being who, with her library monitors ran the remarkable second hand book sale to raise funds for Project Compassion. It was fantastic to witness the degree to which our children embrace this opportunity to buy books for a good cause – winners all round, really!
Speaking of fundraising, the Siena Car Wash is not to be missed! It is on next week Saturday April 6. Again, this is for a cause very close to our hearts!
Year Two Catherine are on deck next Friday. Come along and enjoy their assembly item!
Have a great weekend

NEW REGULATIONS - Immunisation History Statement
Due to new regulations under the Public Health Act 2016 (WA), parents/guardians of a child are now required to give the immunisation status of the child as recorded on the child’s current immunisation certificate to the school. The only acceptable documentation for this purpose is the child’s Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
Please see below how to access an AIR Immunisation History Statement :
A child’s current AIR Immunisation History Statement can be accessed at any time by the parent/guardian through:
* MyGov, by logging in to their Medicare online account
* Medicare Express Plus App, by logging in to the Medicare account
* Visiting a Medicare or Centrelink office, or
* Calling the AIR General Enquiries Line on 1800 653 809 for the Statement to be posted
Families who do not hold a Medicare card are advised to call the AIR on 1800 653 809 to request an Immunisation History Statement. Parents are automatically sent an AIR Immunisation History Statement when their child turns 18 months of age and again at five years of age or after their child has completed the four year old vaccination schedule, whichever comes first.
When your child completes their 4 year old vaccination, it is a requirement that you provide the School Office with an updated AIR Statement.
3 Year Old and 4 Year Old Kindergarten Enrolments 2020
We are currently accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2020. Please contact Laurie Evans, laurie.evans@cewa.edu.au if you have not enrolled your child or if you are unsure. Enrolment at 3 Year Old Kindergarten does not guarantee enrolment in the 4 Year Old programme. Let others know if they are interested!
4 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2021
We will be interviewing new families to the school in Term 2, 2019. For families already within the school with older children from 4 Year Old Kindergarten to Year 6, no interview will be required. If you have not enrolled your child or are unsure whether an application has been completed, please contact Laurie Evans, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday on 9203 4500 or email admin@hrs.wa.edu.au.

Seeking group of parents to arrange some fun!
Last year we had A LOT of fun at Musical Bingo. And the year before we had A LOT of fun at Bogan Bingo.
What should we do this year?
The last two events were a team effort – parents getting together and having fun planning the fun. Others quickly join in when things start to happen! Meetings on lounge carpets, in cafes, in the parking lot… you know how it is!
We’re thinking end of Term 2.
If you have a group of people willing to lead the charge, we know you won’t be short of helpers.
Let the office know and we’ll be in touch! Cheers, Mark Nolan

MEET OUR FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Felicity Kendall, mum of Chelsea in Year 2 and two older daughters at Newman, runs the adult’s 4R Fitness group at Holy Rosary.
FELICITY, WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
“I believe that age and size are no barrier to exercise. The fun environment at 4R Fitness is about making you feel great on the inside and out. Exercise is about goal setting, achievements, friendships, rewards, being motivated, supported and encouraged. My children are no longer my excuse for not doing exercise - they are my reason for it!”
Classes are on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and evenings, offering three different styles of workouts, cardio, weight circuits and boxing sessions.

SIENA CAR WASH FUNDRAISER
Holy Rosary Swimming Trials 2019
Location: HBF Stadium
The Holy Rosary 2019 Swimming Trials will be held on Monday April 1st at HBF Stadium for students in Year 3 – 6. Students will travel to the venue in buses leaving school at 9 am therefore please make sure all children are in the classroom at 8:30am on Monday. The trials are due to start at 9:25am at the indoor pool.
On the day all students should arrive at school in their sports uniform, wearing their bathers underneath. Students are to have a towel, their lunch, drink and cap. They will not be permitted to purchase food at the venue.
Students will return to school by buses, Year 3 and Siena children will leave early at around 11:30am. The rest of the buses will depart HBF Stadium at 1:45pm unless otherwise organised with the school. They may change out of bathers once they return to school. The school day will finish at the normal time.
The 25m events will start from the shallow end of the pool and swim to the center of the pool to a noodle finish line. This means in the 25m events students may choose to dive off of the blocks if they are strong swimmers or they may dive off the edge of the pool in freestyle and breaststroke if they have less confidence. Backstroke events will be a traditional water start.
The purpose of the trials is to help place students in Year 3 -6 into divisions for the faction carnival in Term 4 and to help determine the Holy Rosary Interschool Swimming Squad for Years 4-6. Year 3 Students do not compete in the interschool competition.
Please see the outline of the day’s events below.
Regards,
Rob Flexman - P.E Teacher

Library News
In the library this week, we have been learning about the challenges that children in other communities face daily. We are so grateful that we don’t have to walk to Jackadder Lake each morning for our water! Thank you everyone for your donations and support of our Second Hand Book Sale for Project Compassion. Huge thanks to our magnificent Library Monitors for everything they have done to make the sale a huge success. It was also the last week of Book Club for our fabulous year 5’s Willa, Sophie, Alyssa, Emma, Evie, Aston, Vincent, Levi and Oliver. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series and I am looking forward to our next group of Book Clubbers in term 2! Have a great weekend!

FAQ
What’s with the ipads?
You will have seen many examples already this year of the varied and interesting ways in which technology is used at Holy Rosary. Holy Rosary runs a 1-1 device programme for children in Years 1-6. At this time, for reasons of cost, performance and reliability, ipads are the device of choice. The school leases and manages all the devices and employs a teacher (Caroline Mullins) to manage the programme.
Children entering Year One receive a new ipad, and this is replaced with another new ipad at the beginning of Year Four. Our experience at Holy Rosary has been that there is a loss of performance if devices are kept for more than three years, so we replace them to ensure children have access to the latest, reliable, high performance device. The devices are able to run the latest software and apps, and battery charge is good enough to get through the day. The iPads are being managed by a new Mobile Device Management system called Zuludesk.
In the event that a device stops working, we have spare devices at school for the children to use so that there is no ‘down time.’
The judicious use of technology is an important consideration at school, and as such the devices are used to aid in the achievement of learning outcomes.
Everybody knows that technology changes at a rapid rate, and it is frustrating when devices don’t work. Centralising the leasing and management of devices, and renewing them regularly means our children have a good experience with technology.
The IT levy covers the cost of the iPad, insurance, apps, and management. A significant portion of the levy also contributes to the infrastructure (wireless switches, servers display screens to name a few), SEQTA engage, Microsoft licensing and Leading Lights costs (which includes internet access and filtering).
At the end of the contract the iPads are either returned to the supplier\leasing company or they are purchased by the school for use by the PP, Kindy and Staff. When these iPads are 4 years old they are sold to AppleBuyBack. These funds are used to underwrite the technology used in Kindy and PrePrimary.
