Colorado Shines Rating Month is Here!
Colorado Shines exists to:
- Rate the quality of Colorado’s licensed child care and preschool programs
- Help programs continue to improve the quality of services they provide
- Show families a program is committed to quality
At Little School, we are proud of our high rating through Colorado Shines. Every three years, programs who participate in Colorado Shines higher-level ratings go through the process all over again and get re-rated. We are currently being re-rated this month! As the director, I have to upload information regarding our business practices, curriculum and assessment documentation, human resource practices, and health and safety practices that are all rated and analyzed by a team of professionals. This counts for 50% of our rating. In addition, our teachers are rated at random throughout the month. Nine of our classroom teachers will have a rater come into their classrooms and utilize the ERS tool to assess teaching practices and classrooms set-ups. While this is a very stressful time for our staff and myself, we are honored to show Colorado Shines our amazing school and community.
Here are some ways you can help us:
1) Complete the Family Survey I sent out earlier this week. Your answers count toward our score
2) Pack two food groups for snack, and four food groups and a milk/milk alternative for lunch
3) Be extra nice to your child's teacher. Take them a Starbucks or write them a nice email, for example. Help be your teacher's cheerleader this month. They need it.
We are a great school because we have amazing parents and families like all of you. I am honored to be the supervisor of the wonderful staff here at Little School, but I am even more honored to work with all of the wonderful families here. Thank you for all you do for our school. You all hold a special place in our lives.

Thanksgiving Box Collections!
Each year, we participate in the Food-For-All Thanksgiving Boxes food drive. Food-For-All is trying to make 400 boxed meals for families in need this month. Each of our classrooms are assigned a specific food to donate, and we would love your help! Between November 1st and November 11th, please bring in the item your class is assigned. On the 12th we will assemble the boxes and deliver them to Food-For-All. We also need $10 King Sooper Gift Cards for turkey purchases. If you decide to bring a $10 gift card, please put it in an envelope and write "Food-For-All Donation" on the envelope. Please ask your teacher to turn the card into the office or you may bring it to us when you drop-off or pick-up your child. Again, the food drive ends November 11th. Thank you so much for helping us support families in need in our community.

Winter Clothing and Snow Days
Also, we follow the Weather Guidelines for Children. The guidelines give us guidance on when to allow students to play outside and when it is best to keep them inside. In our wonderful state of Colorado, most days are safe for students to go outside. Please pack gloves, hats, jackets, and boots if appropriate. That way your child can comfortably enjoy their outdoor time.
Snow Days! It's that time of year that I remind parents how we communicate closures or delays due to weather. Once Douglas County School District announces a delay or closure, we will post our delay or closure on our Facebook page, we will email it to you, and it will also be listed on the tickers on channels 4, 7, and 9. If DCSD is delayed 90 minutes, we too delay 90 minutes to allow our teachers time to drop off their own children. On delay days, there is no BeforeCare offered. If DCSD closes, we too will close.
Stay warm this winter!
Music Class News
Happy November, Little School Families!
We have had such a wonderful time singing our fun Halloween songs for the last couple of weeks! It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving month is here!
We will start practicing for our Christmas programs this month, and we are SO excited about them! Listen for your Little Schooler to be singing Christmas classics around the house, like, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Jingle Bells," and "Angels We Have Heard on High."
Mid-month, we will take a break from practicing Christmas songs and enjoy some charming Thanksgiving poems and tunes like, "Mr. Turkey," "Mr. Duck," and “Thank You Song.” We, as your music team would like to say that we are honored and blessed to have your children in our lives. May this Thanksgiving season bring love, health, peace, and joy into your hearts and homes.
