Important Parent Information
During the registration process you completed a transportation form. On that form you indicated how your child would arrive and depart from school every day. The school refers to that form when dismissing your child. In the event you need to change the way your child goes home on a certain day, please follow the procedures below.
- A written note is required. It can be sent to school with your child or you may come in and drop it off at the beginning of the day.
- Phone calls, faxes, and email will not be accepted.
- A parent/guardian is the only one who can change transportation for a child.
- Without written notice, we will follow the normal dismissal procedures.
The procedures have been implemented to maintain a safe enviornment for our students and avoid confusion at dismissal time.
Tardy
If your child is late to school for any reason or returning to school from an appointment, please accompany them up to the office and sign them in. Please do not drop off your child.
Sick
You must call the school by 9:00 a.m. if you are keeping your child home due to illness. You are required to call the school each day your child is absent.
Anticipated Absence
An anticipated absence form must be completed and turned in to your child’s teacher at least three (3) days prior to any anticipated absence. All anticipated absences require approval by the principal. This form will be kept in the student’s file for reference. Per the VCS Parent/Student Handbook, family vacations, recreation, or family errands are considered unexcused absences. The student is responsible for work missed during the absence. The amount of time allowed for make-up work shall be one day for each day absent.

PTO News
Please join us for the first PTO meeting of the year on Thursday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. Free child care is provided at all meetings! At PTO Meetings, we discuss upcoming events and we love to hear new ideas and input. There is always so much going on at Central and PTO meetings are a great way to get more information about them!! We hope to see you on the 12th!
Market Day is in need of a chairperson – if you are interested, please contact Diana Sullivan at 548-8684. At this time, if we do not get a chairperson within the next two weeks, we will need to cancel the Market Day program for this school year. For those of you who have already placed an order, pick up will be September 11th between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. At this time, unless we announce that the program has started again, this will be our only order of the year.
The Central Spiritwear order forms went out this week! Please note that if you are interested in purchasing any of the apparel, please have your form and money sent into the office by September 11th.
Parent questionnaires were also sent out this week and we are still in need of responses from numerous parents. Please fill out the forms and return them as soon as you can – we hope that we will be able to use these forms to fill the open chairperson and helper positions! The form can also be filled out on line, the link is on Central's homepage. http://www.valpo.k12.in.us/Domain/272
The calendar magnets are complete! Due to online registration, we will be sending them out to the students within the next week.
Target is giving $5 Million to schools nationwide. We can help earn money for Central. Parents just need to go online to www.givewith.target.com and vote for Central Elementary. It helps to enter the zip code 46383 to avoid accidentally voting for a different Central Elementary. After 25 votes, $25 will be donated to our school and $1 will be donated for all additional votes. There is one vote, per person, per week. The program will end on September 21, 2013.
The PTO is starting to work on the Central 2013-2014 Student Directory and Handbook. If anyone has a business they would like to advertise in the directory, please contact Keri Parks at 476-4044. Half page and full page ads are available!Kernals & Kones
A big thank you to Kernals and Kones for donating popcorn and ice cream to all new students and those who completed their summer work packet! The students had a nice walk downtown and enjoyed their special treat for all their hard work!
